i have a problem with the official patch, it can't seem to find the game install file, no matter how many times i reinstall it, would it help to install registry files? if so, could someone point me in a direction where i could download the correct registry entries?

hi all!
i've got a problem. i've installed the game with "win 2k install trick", patch it, and added a 2000-XP patch.
thegame stats normal, but when i hit new game, credts or intro, the game crashes ---> System Shock 2 encountered problem...
the strange thing is, that when i get cutscene folder and try to run them manually, get an anoying error --> Windows media player encountered problem... and has to close.. i also tried with BS Player and WinAmp but none of them is playing either.
i have
Windows XP Pro SP2
AMD Sempron 3100+ Box
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 256Mb
512Mb RAM
any ideas??

Have you tried reinstalling the video codecs?

It sounds like you´re missing the install.cfg or registry keys. Either you got the game illegally or you installed manually.

TheNightTerror: I did install te latest xp video codec, found on a web site! Is it possible that I installed "WRONG" codec?
Bjossi on 26/7/2005 at 18:46
There´s a file on your CD that has the codecs needed. But there´s an alternative, delete the cutscenes folder.

Using WinXP drivers for Win98 is like using nVidia drivers for an ATi card. Just doesn´t work. ;)
Do other Dark Engine games work on your system?
If not, then Dark Engine doesn´t like something in your computer.
Thief gold runs just fine in winxp x64, but will not run at all in win 98. (oddly Evil Genus will only run in 98)
I don't care that i can't run it in 98, as it is easyer to play in xp x64, it just very odd that the x64 verson of windows runs System shock 2, and thief gold with no changes what so ever, just like how it would normaly work on 98...
System shock 1 works just fine in 98 still, i wonder if it will run in Xpx64, i will go fine that out.

I ran SS2 on my mom's computer, which had Win XP Pro with integrated graphics, and it worked like a charm. Just ran it like a normal program. Now I moved the whole folder to my laptop, which is on WinXP Home (on a Centrino) with ATI Mobility Radeon x300, and am having trouble. The main menu's fine, and if I load up a saved game, nothing's wrong, BUT... when I tried to start a new game, it craps up and gives me the "encountered a problem and have to close" thing. Tried reinstalling it, same thing. Anyone can help me out? Oh, and um... I downloaded SS2... I'm such a cheapskate..
