I'm just talking out of my ass here, the closest I've ever gotten to a PC with hyperthreading was the last time I was in a computer store. But, here's my guess for ways to find out.
Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to open Task Manager, then right click a random .exe file. I seem to remember when I did that on a PC with hyper threading, there were two CPUs listed, CPU0 and CPU1, or something like that, under 'Set Affinity,' maybe? Or, right click the 'My Computer' shortcut on your desktop, (or in your Start menu) and click properties. There may be something there as well.

edit: as a matter of fact, I believe just right-clicking on 'my computer' and selecting 'properties' will tell you what kind of CPU you have, and that includes HT or not.
edit 2: as a matter of fact, I'm wrong. However, the device manager's a click from there, and that one will tell you.

That was the problem. You were right about the Hyperthreading/ Dual CPU's. The game works fine now, and I really appreciate all the help. This ordeal has given me insight into one thing though, I am a dumbass. =)

Bah.
Alright. I played the game yesterday just fine, today it ran fine, but after installing SS2MM it crashes with one of those XP send/dont send error report pop-ups, upon running the .exe
no changes to install other than these below:
safe_texture_manager is in both cam.cfg and user.cfg
have official patch
not running any mods on the MM, also fails to run with some running
have deleted "current" and the save folders
have moved cinematics to a different folder
am using the thief 2 hyperthreading fix, modified for SS2
that should be everything I changed...
I have tried removing the MM, to no avail or change
I have tried all compatibilty modes, but previously worked fine without them
I have tried removing/repairing all of the above changes (excepting the patch)
Specs:
XP Pro
Intel P4 1.8 GHZ
512 DDR Ram
SB Live! Value
128 mb - 800 mhz FX 5600 Ultra (Nvidia) latest drivers
Ahhh need my SS2 fix, my game music playlist is not enough.........
EDIT: Currently making a fresh install to see if the MM installation changed anything other than its SS2MM folder...

Hey, don't worry about it, you're in good company with me around. ;)

It wasn´t a good idea to delete "current", the game will crash every time it attempts to autosave.
And compability makes things worse, so I wouldn´t try that.
But what is SS2MM?

TheNightTerror on 24/7/2005 at 15:51
I'd install the game to a directory with a very short name, I use C:\Sshock2 normally. Works like a charm.

Thanks you so much for this info. This was my exact problem, the game was locking up on me every 5 minutes or so and even with quicksaving I was hating it very much. Put this fix in and played 30 minutes without a lockup. Thanks!
