Yeah I put the safe_texture_manager line in both those cfgs but it just makes them Notepad documents and not the cfg file. I will save my changes but it changes it to a text doc. How do I get it back to cfg?!
Either just use the save shortcut, (CRTL+S I believe) or when you save the file, change the 'save as type' to 'all files.' It won't add the .txt extension and you should be good to go. :thumb:

I installed SS2 on my moms comp. It installed perfectly. I patched it and it didn't work. So I used that fixed exe given earlier in this thread. It actually started the game now! BUT, its only the load screen in the beginning. You know the one with the Xerxes thing and the ship? Well it then goes into a black screen and it acts like its loading for a couple seconds. I am thinking at this point, I can play! Wrong. It boots me to Desktop, and gives that 'Send error to Microsoft' BS. Any help would be great.
Have you reinstalled the video codecs?
DocHoliday on 24/6/2005 at 07:23
Well the safe_texture_manager didn't work either. I am not sure what to do now. Any suggestions? I even made the new user.cfg like you suggested earlier to someone.
Also, where can I get some codecs for the game on my moms computer? Thanks for your help!

How do I get it back to cfg?! I name it ****.cfg but it recognizes it as a text doc. But the name just says ****.cfg. But whenever I looked in the properties it said it was named this ****.cfg.txt. And it gave me no option in changeing it. Help! I may have f***** up my .cfg files! Thanks guys.
Open any folder, then follow this path.
Tools > Folder Options > View > Hide extensions of known filetypes (uncheck it)
Then you´re able to rename extensions successfully.
For example, renaming shock.cfg to shock.txt, it´ll become a TXT file.
This might take awhile to get used to tho. But if it is unchecked already, you´re renaming it differently than me.
(I click twice on the filename and then rename it.

I´ve got this error before, but only in one situation, it was on deck 4, sector D. It always crashed and gave me that MS error whenever a security camera came onscreen. I have no idea how I fixed it tho. Maybe it stopped crashing out of the blue.
Btw, have you tried unwrapping the ICD file with unSafeDisc tool? (use Google)
Maybe the computer doesn´t like the SafeDisc protection.

For most people who cannot get past the career choice. (getting a black screen instead) and everything before this point seems ok the problem lies probably in the fact that the 3ivx codec is installed. Check for it in add/remove programs and uninstall it! worked for me!! :cheeky:
the problem lies in the fact that the movie (spaceshuttle) is not played properly even though the previous movies are played correctly

Could someone give me some advice? I'd really like to give this game a go!
My problem: The game crashes at random points. Sometimes it will crash before the title screen has loaded. Graphics and Sound are in working order, no problems there.
My Specs:
P4 3.4GHZ
1024 DDR2 RAM
ATI X800 XT
I've tried the differently compatibility modes, and they all fail to go at least 5 minutes without crashing. Another strange thing, whenever I run the game, a new SystemShock file appears on my desktop. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try looking in the FAQ, it sounds like you need to disable hyper-threading, there's instructions in there. :)
Peanut on 9/7/2005 at 07:24
I thought that applied to people with dual processors?
TheNightTerror on 9/7/2005 at 07:30
It does, actually, I just thought you might have hyper-threading because of your processor speed. :erm: Are you absolutely positive you don't have it?

How would I check that? Sorry, I don't know a lot about Pentiums =(
