I have a very weard problem.
When I installed GarrettLoader, for use in SS2, my game refused to load at all in Windows 98, black screening with the Error in Video memery, but now in Windows XP x64 I can play without any problems at all. do you think that windows XP x64 did something to the EXE file?

It shouldn't have. Normally your video drivers are the reason for getting that error, did you update them when you ugpraded to XP?

Maybe the Windows XP drivers weren't working right on Windows 98?

Using WinXP drivers for Win98 is like using nVidia drivers for an ATi card. Just doesn´t work. ;)
Do other Dark Engine games work on your system?
If not, then Dark Engine doesn´t like something in your computer.

It seems this is an old onboard graphics controller.
Have you tried adding safe_texture_manager to the cam.cfg or shock2.cfg files? I think you can bypass that error sometimes with that line in either of the CFG files.

safe_texture_manager isn't usually applied to that error, it's a different one.

Even if you get it working, I don't think you'll get much mileage with that machine. My home machine is a 333mhz, 128 meg RAM machine with a Riva TNT2. SS2 does not run in a fashion I'd call playable (for an immersive game). If the machine was 25-30% faster though...

Yeah I put the safe_texture_manager line in both those cfgs but it just makes them Notepad documents and not the cfg file. I will save my changes but it changes it to a text doc. How do I get it back to cfg?! I name it ****.cfg but it recognizes it as a text doc. But the name just says ****.cfg. But whenever I looked in the properties it said it was named this ****.cfg.txt. And it gave me no option in changeing it. Help! I may have f***** up my .cfg files! Thanks guys.
ALSO IMPORTANT!
I installed SS2 on my moms comp. It installed perfectly. I patched it and it didn't work. So I used that fixed exe given earlier in this thread. It actually started the game now! BUT, its only the load screen in the beginning. You know the one with the Xerxes thing and the ship? Well it then goes into a black screen and it acts like its loading for a couple seconds. I am thinking at this point, I can play! Wrong. It boots me to Desktop, and gives that 'Send error to Microsoft' BS. Any help would be great.
