Ok, For clearafication here is what I believe to be wrong. In game the colors are off. Way off. When I go to the video settings in game I only have x8 texture options . I cant remeber if I used to have both x8 and x16 I am rather sure of that but I KNOW I used to have a x16 option before I reformated and switched from 98 to 2k. I CAN force x16 with the cam.cfg file but the game WILL crash just after loading. I belive this is due to the fact that the game doesn't want to run at x16 for some reason. So, my question is... HOW do I actually MAKE x16 textures avilable in the video options. I need to force the game to allow me to select x16 textures. I am not sure but the problem could lie in : The directx drivers, the video card drivers (to new maybe?), win 2k its self, something going wrong during instalation (I dont think so .. but maybe 2k is doing something when it tries to find its video options) or maybe... MAYBE some screwed up regestry entry.
Thanks for all the help so far, it helped me weed out problems till I found what I am sure is the problem. Now, I just need to fix it.

Got it working! Yes! Yeah, it was a really complicated process ... essentialy I had to dig around and I found that my current vid card drivers were acutally a little behind. When I installed 2k it had drivers for my vid card built in which acutally made things more complicated... Cause every time I tried to install drivers it would for some half assed reason keep useing the built in one instead even though it wasnt 100% compatable (It didnt allow Direct 3d acceleration ... BAD) I managed to find a pack that had the LAST update for my card by going though nVidia's faqs and junk. Then I had to erase all instances of the old drivers before it would actually install this new one right. So that let me install the new drivers. So I try SS2 ... now it has "Primary display" under the Hardware video option thing... still only x8 modes . So I uninstall (I installed twice today... the first time the log wasnt there for some reason so I had to go into the regestry and delete some stuff. ) Then I installed it again and BOOM now I only have x16 options AND now I can also play 1024x768. And ... yeah it looks good now. Now I just need to fix the dongle I made to let me connect my x-box controller to my comp and I am set to play. WOO! Thanks for all the help though. ^_^

I have downloaded the SS2 demo, great so far, I can't believe I missed this game, it feels so ... perfect. I love the movement, mantling feels so much cooler than in DX:IW WOW. BUT for some reason it randomly crashes all the time, I set affinity to one CPU and set compatibility to Win95 (shud I try other operating systems?) can you help plz!
P.S WOW cant believe I missed this game...WOW

Set it to use only 1 CPU, but don´t use compability, it´s been said many times that it makes things worse.
When does the demo crash? Just ingame or always when you load/save/bulkhead load etc.?

Thanks for reply, the demo crashes randomly mostly at times when something is happening like a door opening or shooting something, after that it seems i have to uninstall then install it to get it to wotk again!
I'll try not having compatitbility on, :( ... *sniff*... why did i miss this game, im gonna get an old computer so I can enjoy it without the hassle, first I'm trying to get SS1 to work on my old Win 95 comp, wish me luck!

I was just playing SS2 ten minutes ago and it was fine, then I quit for ten minutes to grab something to eat. When I went to load p again it says:
"You have 7M of free disk space. Shock 2 requires 35M. Shock 2 cannot run."
I just checked and my HD has over 60G of free space, and ten minutes ago the game ran fine.. oO
*edit*
nevermind, I just did... something in the directory (no idea what) and it works again.. :/

You don´t need an old computer, I have a 2004 computer and the game works fine for me. (I had to apply a hyperthreading fix, nothing else)
If you get the full game, you have more access to EXE fixes and other ones.
Btw, if you don´t use an EXE fix, you have to set to use only 1 CPU every time you run the demo.
When you say crashes, do you mean it goes back to the desktop, or does it freeze and loop the sound that was playing? An error message?

Have a look in the FAQ. It will explain.

Sorry for being so stupid I stopped using the compatibilty fix and it works fine, in fact I finished it!
It had the problem of freezing and looping the sound, but not anymore, bloody hell only the demo and already got a few scares from it!
Now the only problem is getting SS1 to work and buying SS2!
A few questions: I finished the demo having researched both the cyborg and little monkey's tissue and finding AP bullets for the pistol (the recoil on that thing is monsterous) I love the idea of researching fallen enemys. Some of the orders barked out to me by that crazy lady were a bit confusing, which led me to believe there are multiple ways of finishing the demo?
So naturally I want to complete every possible thing in the demo, will you help me?
I finished the demo by recharging that battery and escaping that way, I successfully hacked something but I have no idea how I did it, it gave me a little time to destroy those pesky cameras which seemed to summon cyborgs on steroids!
Great game!
