Whoops, I completely missed your post somehow. :erm: Let's see here . . .

Ok, here´s what´s wrong. It happens rarely, but it´s still annoying when it happens. When I save, sometimes I get a protocol droid in my face when opening a door in Engineering, so I load.
And guess what, the loading bar doesn´t move at all. Ctrl + Alt + Del does nothing but even worse. The screen is there and the loading bar stays empty.
So, this only happens on occasion, after an enemy spawns? :erm: Do you quick-load, or go to the main menu and load? I've never had anything quite like that happen before, I
have had saves freeze after creating a new save file type. (For example, if I've used the SS2 mod manager to create a new save file set, or I'm saving my SS2 multiplayer games, and save in a new slot, it's a guaranteed freeze.) Rebooting the computer usually stopped it, though, so I don't know what's going on. :(

Thank god I use two savegames that I save zigzag.
(I save the upper save slot, then the lower slot, again the upper slot etc.)
Is there a fix for this or at least a way to bypass it?
It sounds like the save files are getting corrupted, and I don't
think there's a way to fix it. (I'm sure I'll be flamed if I'm wrong. ) Just keep switching between the two save files, and save frequently, it's a good way to work around it, and the only one I know of. Or, maybe try using 3 save files. Say, the first time you save, save in slots 1+2, second time, 2+3, third time, 3+1. That way, you'll always have 2 copies of the save file, so hopefully one won't get corrupted. And, if it does, you still have the older file to fall back on. It's probably overkill, but just a thought.

Thanks for your answer. :)
I don´t use quickload, but it´s quite common that when I load a savegame, the loading bar doesn´t move at all. Sometimes I can use Alt + Ctrl + Del to get back to Windows but sometimes I have to restart the computer.
I don´t know what´s causing the frequent corruption of the savegames but I haven´t experienced this at home except only once or twice since I got the game back in 2000. (the problem is in my dad´s computer, I play the game there too and it´s getting annoying with this corruption)

My vid card drivers are recent
Try older drivers, like 30.82.
Rhys_Landale on 7/6/2005 at 03:33
Ugh, still no luck. The game plays atleast but the graphics look like shit.
Lets see, I tried updateing drivers... reverting to older ones... well it doesnt seem to do anything. My vid card is pretty old and doesnt seem to have been updated by Nvidia in a long time. 30.82 works as does 40... something but they seem to just install the same driver. Im going to probaly try to find an even older one and maybe it will work. My theory at the moment is that the newer driver just screws up SS2. I have heard of such a problem before so... maybe. I'm thinking this is likely because I used to be able to use SS2 just fine ( this problem could be caused by a win2k issue but... Im going to test the driver theory first) before I switched to win2k and updated to the newer driver. I think I remeber back when I used to play SS2 that when I went to the video options I had many options like 640-480X8, 640-480x16, 800-600x8, 800-600x16 and I think 1024-768x8 and 1024-768x16. And I think I may have had options when you click on "choose hardware driver". Now however I only have 640-480x8 and 800-600x8 with nothing under "choose hardware driver"
. I dont know if that second part means anything but I think only haveing two resolution options is atleast a semi issue. I found out that was what was causeing the game to crash just after loading. It turns out that when I start the game it is auto set to 800-600x16... the only problem is that the game doesnt seem to support that setting and it crashes.
So basicaly... I am going to try and find an older driver and see if that helps any. If not.. any other ideas would be very appreciated. It would also help if anyone could tell me if running the game at 800-600x8 or 640-480x8 looks really crappy and the colors are off on there systems... or if that is a non-issue and that has nothing to do with it.

8?
*TNT comes running into room*
8?? I think that's the problem. I think that's the color depth, or something along those lines, you've got 8 bit textures instead of 16. I actually was wondering if that was the problem, but I wanted to try getting them in game myself, and then take a screenie and see if you recognized it. Naturally, I couldn't get 8 bit textures.
However, check out my older post where I mention "cam.cfg", and check to see if the line "game_screen_depth" has 8 or 16 in front of it. If it has 8, try changing it to 16 and see if it helps. :)

Ughh, yeah. I can change "game_screen_depth" to 16 but it doesnt help. If I go to the option menu ingame and look in the video tab it will SAY 800-600x16 however if I click to select the resolution only the two x8 options are avilable. And if I try too play the game at 800-600x16 the game will play the intro movie if I am starting a new game then it will start to load and then ... maybe a second of black screen and back to the desktop. No error msg or anything. If I try to load a game then it starts to load... black screen... desktop. If I change it back to x8 the game will load but look like crap.... How do I go about actually ADDING x16 options to the resolution options? I am rather sure I used to have that option back before I reformated and installed win2k. I didnt change any of the hardware. So, it must be win2k and/or my video card drivers right? I've tried to install an older driver but every one I find is just the same damn one I already have... and there doesnt appear to be a NEWER one either. Oi... I dunno.... baahhhh. What a pain.
TheNightTerror on 7/6/2005 at 08:10
Do you have another game that you know uses 16 bit textures that you can try running? Just to see if the textures look okay in there? If you're not getting them in any game, maye it is the drivers. :( I wish I knew some places to find older drivers, but maybe someone else lurking here can help there.
Bjossi on 7/6/2005 at 20:55
I can set the resolution to 1600 x 1200 with the CFG file (but texts will be almost unreadable), so you should be able to set 16 the same way.
The menu probably still shows the same 8 because it doesn´t know better. (game age and video drivers version).

;) No offense, but . . .

He tried it already, and it didn't work. ;) Specifically, the game flat out crashed. Also, he mentioned before, on the other OS, he could choose between 8 and 16 bit textures. Unless I'm horribly mistaken. :erm:
