Okay, I think we're getting somewhere. :)
When you patched the game, which patch/patches did you use?
When the game crashes as you're loading a new area of the map, when does it crash? For example, does the loading bar reach a certain point before the game crashes, or does the level appear to finish loading, then crash?

ok well if the loading gets past 75% it will load and play but more often it crashes befor it gets to 50 % loaded

Er, guys, I got my copy of SS2 today, and after an hour or so of mucking about about Windows XP, got it to work. At first the game was too fast, but I turned on V Sync and the antialiasing, so it's cool now.
Problem: I don't know why, but the game pauses almost every fifteen seconds to read from the disc. Solutions, anyone? I'm running the SHTUP mod, and the game is playing without using Compatibility, if it helps.
EDIT:Hmm, forgot to mention that it's a full installation.

I had that happen to me before on my old computer. Try poking around "install.cfg", it should be in your SS2 directory. For example, here's what mine looks like:
Quote:
cd_path F:\
install_path D:\Sshock2
language english
resname_base D:\sshock2\res+F:\shock
load_path D:\Sshock2+F:\shock
script_module_path D:\Sshock2+F:\shock
movie_path D:\Sshock2\cutscenes+F:\shock\cutscenes
Check to see what your cd_path is, and remove all references to it in "install.cfg". Hopefully it will simply stick to getting information off the hard drive.
Back it up first, just in case your computer doesn't appreciate the changes you made.
Good luck! :thumb:

So . . . how does your config.sys looks like right now? I can't get it to work . . . yet.
TheNightTerror on 18/2/2005 at 12:28
 There's no config.sys file in my SS2 directory, I was just guessing that removing references to your CD drive from install.cfg would help. That's how my install.cfg file looks right now, and I've reinstalled SS2 on my old computer, so the changes I made are long gone. :(

Er, whoops, it's supposed to be "install.cfg". ^_^; Anyway, I got the game to work without it reading the CD that often . . .
EDIT: New "problem".
I just found out that I can't activate the "God mode" cheat. o_O;;; Help, anyone?
I tried typing in "undead" into the console, making a user.cfg file and putting in undead, but neither work. Help? o_O;;;

I Kept having the Infamous crash as you enter one of the career path doors( from reading I have come to figure this is a save game problem?) I checked to make sure I had a folder named :"current" it already exsited. I had already downloaded any and all ( I think) patches except the no cd crack...only for lack of finding it. Finally read the post about editting the install.cfg file...Now keep in mind I installed my game to my D: in D:games\ here is what I made my install file ....
install_path d:\games
language english
resname_base d:\games+F:\shock2fixed
load_path d:\games\shock2fixed
script_module_path d:\games+F:\shock2fixed
movie_path d:\games\cutscenes+F:\shock\cutscenes
The reason I have it targeted to shock2fixed is because of downloading that fix as well.
hope this helps
