Which patch have you applied to the exe? The game update or the patch that addresses the issue with detonator drivers above 50.00? The black screen problem is quite an annoying one on nvidia systems, I admit...
EDIT: On several different systems (admitedly, all AMD processors (but varied nvidia/ati gfx cards) I've got the game running without any problems or use of strange bizarre patches/commands. The only issue I ever have is having to slow the game down....

Hi,
I've had trouble trying to play SShock 2.
My first problem was that the game would not even run when I started it up - I fixed this with the XP Fix linked from this thread.
My Second problem was the failure to report memory textures... - I fixed with by places Safe_Texture_manager in my .cfg files.
The game runs fine now up until I actually get into the beginning where the radar dish flies at you and explodes. If that doesn't lock me up, I get locked up at a random time shortly after I go up the ladder.
I'm running WIndows XP home. My CPU does not have Hyper-Threading. My Video card ia a GeForce FX 5200.
Any assistance would be great, you guys have gotten me this far.

Have you got any more details about your system? Processor model would be nice also as the problem very much DOES sound like hyper-threading. I presume you can play through training without problems?

Yea, training poses no problems... my processor is: a P 4 2.80
Upon checking I noticed there are two under Processor in Device Manager... this is odd since I only have one. Any insight?

Two processors in device manager? Hmm - are you REALLY sure you've not got Hyper-Threading? Is one of them greyed out?

As JDAdams said, you are most likely running a HyperThreading-enabled Pentium 4 processor. Follow the steps in the guide for disabling your second CPU for SS2.
Just FYI: 2.8 Is within the 'possible' speeds for a processor with HT. I think that a lot since the 2.4c have had it. And ANY prescott-core processor will have it (assuming your processor is an 800mhz fsb or higher proc). Someone please correct me if I'm wrog - I'm more of an AMDroid than an INTELligent type (er, don't even know the lame insult that rabid AMD fans use for Intelophiles. Aside from the obvious "Press-hot" joke. har har) *this last bit is just rambly 'carp' and you should probably ignore*

For the most part, System Shock 2 works perfectly well on my XP system, although there is one annoying feature ( which might not even be specific to XP ). Whenever I run in a resolution other than 640x480, the game switches back to 640x480 during the loading, menu and you-have-completed-a-year-of-service screens, then back to the original resolution during gameplay. Is this normal, or is there a fix available? The lower resolution itself is no problem, but the clicking sounds and visual effect is giving me a headache.

Far as I know, all the Dark engine games have 640x480 menus, and there's no way to change it. :( Once the regular games starts, you can avoid having to go to the main menu a lot by only hard saving at the beginning of each level, or prior to going through a bulkhead, and sticking to mostly quick-saves in between.

So I just bought this game off Ebay and am very excited except I ran into a problem
Whenever I try to install the game I ran into the regular "windows NT cannot run this file" and have tried the e:\setup.exe -lgntforce but even that doesn't work. Has anybody got any ideas? It would be much appreciated.
TheNightTerror on 28/1/2005 at 03:43
You shouldn't need to even use that command line to install the game, actually. It's much easier to find "setup.exe" on your CD, right click on it, open the properties, then set it to run in Windows 95 or 98/ME compatibility mode. That should hopefully get you on your feet. :thumb:
