Hi. I'm a serious n00b. I purchased and downloaded System Shock 2 yesterday. In that time, I've been really having some problems with the video support.
I have the following installed and working:
*P3 equivalent AMD Processor
*256 megs of Ram (PC133)
*an NVidia Vanta 16 meg graphics card,
*a generic PCI sound card
*2 40 gig hard drives.
whenever I open the game, it immediately sets my display resolution to 640x480x16 bit color. the game loads the cutscenes, displays the 'loading new level' screen, and promptly crashes out, without even displaying an error message.
I've gone into the options menu and messed with the display settings. I am given three options.
*640x480x16 bit color (crashes)
*640x480x8 bit color (unplayable due to the psychedelic textures and illegible text)
*800x600x8 bit color (unplayable)
I have no prior experience with an error of this nature, all of the other games I have have worked just fine out of the box.

Have you tried everything suggested in this thread?

Yes!!! I have exhaustively searched this thread for anything that would help me. I've implemented several patches and/or cracks to get it to work, nothing... it really sucks.

Hmmm. Try these:
-double check to make sure you've got the safe_texure_manager line in your user.cfg file
-copy and paste all the .MIS files from your System Shock 2 CD into your SS2 directory, overwriting the ones already there
-make sure you're patched up
Good luck! :thumb:

Strange, I don't have a file called "user.cfg" in my System Shock 2 directory
I have a file called "user.bnd" and another one called "user2.bnd". I have the .mis files, but I didn't get this from a CD. I bought it online and downloaded it.

:erm: Where did you buy it? I've never heard of being able to buy it and download it online.

I get System Shock 2 to run, but all I see is graphical glitches anywhere.
I installed the game fine (no "force" command or whatever), apllied the patch, used the No CD crack and WinXP fix, and the game runs but I can barely see anything.
I tried the "safe" thing on shock.cfg, cam.cfg and user.cfg. Also tried compatibility modes. Result: The level loads and after the intro movie the screen goes black.
Any ideas?
System Specs:
Windows XP Pro + SP1
512 MB RAM
GeForce FX 5700
P4 1.8 GhZ (No HT)
AC 97 Audio

Try downgrading your video card drivers. Look in the technichal FAQ.

Thanks guys, I've tried over 20+ times, every way I could, for over hours to get this game to work o_O, all too no avail.
^_^ Incredible, I love how something written two years ago can still serve the needs of e-noobs like myself.
