This is what I did to get SS2 working on XP Pro SP1 fully pathed.
Hardware info:
CPU Intel Celeron 1.7 GHZ
MB: Canyon on Intel i845G chipset
Video: integrated Intell 845G
Memory: 512MB
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 80GB
1. Install it like: x:\setup.exe -lgntforce (x= CD drive)
2. Run the file iv5play.exe located on the System Shock 2 CD-ROM
3. Add safe_texture_manager string to files: cam.cfg, shock.cfg
This doesn't help. But:
4. Dowload (
http://www.sshock2.com/files/shock2fixed.zip) , unpack it to SS2 folder and run ONLY shock2fixed.exe file.
Viola!! Here it is.
But have another problem. Can't drag or use any items in "inventory". When I left click on item it just use weapon in hand. Right click - nothing.
And I stuck in game where you need to place 'power cell' into socket.
Spend much time to find solution. Will update if I found it.

Your computer can't spell "Error" right...

Hi, i'm new to the system shock series, but i really want to play at least system shock two, i've played Deus Ex 7 times now and i hear if i like that game so much i need to play system shock...
anyways, i'm running winxp pro, P4 2.4, 512 ram, geforce 5200 agp overclocked, i've got it to run using a winxp patch, but i get graphical errors while i'm playing, and it remains constant no matter where i look.
it's almost playable, but the glitches are bad enough to keep me from wanting to try. does anyone know of a fix?
i've tried clocking down my video card to stock levels, compatibility modes, turning off visual themes, the safe texture manager in both .cfg's and all the available resolutions... nothing has worked
i know my video card is fine, i'm able to play games like half-life 2, doom 3 and farcry perfectly.
if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated!
(this is one of those times that i wish it would be available for a console....)

What kind of graphical glitches? Say, are the colors messed up, or is everything in black and white, or are enemies just not appearing?
I assume you've tried the "safe_texture_manager" fix already, just to see if they clear up?
quantumtheo@yahoo.co on 7/1/2005 at 01:04
it's showing artifact type glitches, it's kind of hard to explain unless you see it.
it's like something isn't clamping right maybe... i really don't know, i haven't seen this b4...

Could you take a screenshot of it? It might be easier than trying to describe the glitches. :)

Sivik, your link to that fix helped greatly. At least now my computer recognizes that it's capable of installing SS2. But it says now "You have 0M of free disk space. Shock 2 requires 35M.", and I have 7.83 GB free disk space. Any ideas, anyone?
Greatly appreciated,
Lea
