Double-check that compatibility modes are
disabled, I've never had SS2 run when it's set to run in, say, Windows 95/98 compatibility mode. Also, make sure you've done the age old safe_texture_manager fix, probably already done it, but just thought I'd remind you. ;)
Yep I have done all of that and nothing

Long time haven't been here, but still I enjoy playing System Shock 2. Just install Windows 2000 to replace Windows 98 SE in the second hard disk, since Windows 98 SE hates the onboard ethernet device very much, it keeps crashing everytime booting it. I have to uninstall and reinstall the driver. So I decide to throw Windows 98 SE away even though System Shock is installed under it.
Windows 2000 is much more stable, but it is known to be not compatible with System Shock 2. The installation is OK with -lgntforce trick.
But first run fails. Then patch the game to 2.3, still no luck. Use the Windows 2k & XP executable and it runs smoothly. :joke:
Then I try to run it under Windows XP, since System Shock 2 has very little registry items, it should be fine to run from booting the first hard disk with Windows XP. I can go into the menu, but it goes black when new game starts. A small window hides under the black screen saying directx cannot report the proper texture memory usage. I add the safe_texture_manager line in user.cfg, but still no go. I suddenly think of lowering the colors of desktop from 32 bit to 16 bit as System Shock 2 uses 16 bit only. I see Ramsey Center again. :laff:
So just want to share the experience and see the new method helps anyone.

Allright. I've got a bit of a problem here. I'm playing Marine, on Normal difficulty, and I'm on Ops. Everytime i try to go through Bulkhead 43, the loading screen gets about three quarters of the way through, before a windows error appears. It reads as follows:
ERROR: Invalid PhysModel type: -1744830464
I've looked for it in the FAQ, I used search, And scoured the net otherwise, but didn't find anything (though all that could mean is I managed to over look it. )
I can still use autosave. It drops me back in the Xerxes room, with all stats at 1 and a completely empty inventory
I've tried compatability mode to no avail, and I haven't used any mods.
Any idea's?

Well, now *that's* odd. I'm extremely overtired, just a warning, but it sounds like there might be a problem with the map. Maybe try checking your SS2 CD for the Ops deck .mis files, copy and paste them into your SS2 directory and overwrite the ones already there. You can always do a back-up just to be on the safe side. If the map it's loading is buggered up, that might help.
Have you been able to make it through the bulkhead before, or is this your first time?
liquidfear on 21/12/2004 at 01:06
Well, originally there were four .MIS files for Ops. I copied them over from the CD, and there were still only 4. But, no matter, 'cause something worked. Thanks TNT :thumb:

:cheeky: No problem. The .mis file for Bulkhead 43 must've gotten corrupted somehow, I was hoping replacing it with the originals off the CD would help. :thumb:

I'm sure I've seen an error like that before *notes down your solution* Thanks :)

Have you played with any of the .cfg files? Check out cam.cfg, and check the line that reads "game_hardware". If it's set to 1, try changing it to 0. I remember messing with the .cfg files killing all my sound in game, so starting there could help. :thumb:
