You need to patch the game.

Hey there, I'm new to the forums and I've been really lucky with System Shock 2. The safe texture manager trick solved my problem right off the bat, and a compatibility mode actually -stopped- it working, for me. So now, though, I've got a very specific crash, on the recreational deck, when the main elevator is opened for me, and I try to go up to desck 6, the game crashes to windows without fail.
Is this something a patch fixes? I'm not sure if my version is patched or not. The executable says version 1.0, but I've had games where the executable always says version 1.0 without fail, even after patching.
Many thanks in advance.

I'm real sorry for the double post, but after some suggestions from freinds I found out that the problem was the texture mod, you know the one that improves a bunch of the textures in game? It seems to make deck 6 unloadable for me.

Sounds like you may have a very old version of SHTUP installed. Try downloading the newest one, beta 4 I believe? It should get you on your feet again. :)

What patch? Can you please link me? I tried that WIN XP one and that always said "We're sorry...blah blah...ecountered a problem and needs to close"

I believe he meant you need to install the version 2.3 patch. I'm pretty sure that's the version number, anyway. :p

I didn't see any mention that you tried the CD crack. I'd suggest that.

I've tried every single friggin patch! All the same error "We're sorry but [name] has to close, we are sorry for the inconvince." I cannot run this stuff! Frankly I'm getting ready to write a letter to the company explaining that their product is a worthless peice of *beeep* Stupid 5.15 version. Gah.

Check the compatibility modes on the .exe file you use to run SS2. I've NEVER had SS2 run with any of them on, maybe you turned it on and forgot to turn it off? :erm:
