Got it installed, but it quits every time i try to pick a career at the begining. Ive tried the compatibility modes. This was brought up once before in this thread but remained unanswered. Could someone please for the love of God help me get this game working?

Has NO ONE found a fix or even a reason for this yet? I've seen LOTS of posts on this topic about it and not even so much as a reply of acknowledgement, even if nobody had a fix... I've done EVERYTHING suggested and this seems to be the only problem I have... And apparently I'm not the only one. >.>;
EDIT:
...Okay, apologies... I searched the rest of the forums again (I may be new, but I know not to post without looking first...) and found that one fixed .exe... Didn't work for me, but oh well. Might for someone else. Thinking about it now, I think I did see one post in this topic linking to it. Sorry! ^^; Sooooo... I guess... Any OTHER fixes? ^^;

Ive read through the whole FAQ and all the posts and no one has solved this problem. When ever i try to save the game it crashes. Ive installed the xp .exe, done the whole user.cfg thing and have fiddiled with the complatability settings.
Im running XP, dont have hyperthreading. I really want to play this game and any solutions or suggestions are much apreciated.
thanks all
Monkeys!!!

Hi guys,
Im having a bit of a problem with SS2 on XP also, i tried the steps listed in the FAQ without success. I then hunted for the safdisk unwrapper, and of course its dead-link city. I cant even get it to load period without it crashing instantly. I'll list my specs but it problably doesnt make that much of a difference.
One thing that struck me as interesting as the setup gave me no problems at all, i didnt have to use the NT switch or anything.....

Virtual PC sucks. It sets up some wacky S3 Video card when it should be setting up my GeForce6 6800 Ultra. The sound doesn't work in Virtual PC MS-DOS, even though I chose Live which is DOS compatible with my Audigy 2 :(
back to the Pentium 166 with MS-DOS 7.10 [cool]

I've been haunted by the save game crashing bug as well; finally found a solution --- in an odd place.
The following package (available via bittorrent) which claims to be some kind of RIP->full CD upgrade contains also a fix for a save game crash. I didn't need or use any of that, just the "ss2 fix" contained in it. Here's a link to the package:
and here is the contents of the "ss2 fix.txt" readme:
"Use this file ONLY if you encounter any problems when saving your game. This file will recreate autosave from the beginning of the game, effectively overwriting your existing one. No other saves will be affected. Note, if your game crashes immediately after you enter the door to choose your career path, then you have save game problems and should apply this fix."
The fix is inside the "ss2 fix.exe" (mind the space in the name) file. Unfortunately, google can't seem to find a quick link to it on the net. The only source available right now seems to be the bittorrent link above. If anyone can host the file (it's only 155 kB) I'll mail it.
For me it works; I can now use ALT+S to quicksave, and also save from menus. Haven't gotten as far as the career-choosing-doors. Once had a game hang while saving from the menu, but after restarting ss2 the savegame turned out ok, so that's a mild problem.

I'm sorry, but you cannot post that URL here as the website carries links to pirated software, which is (

Has anyone gotten SS2 work with XP SP2 ?
I tried today installing it and several of those patches and got No CD found.
To my knowledge all the files had folders right and yes, I tried CD cracks with no luck at all.

Yes, it works here with SP2. I'm using the 2000_xp fix (see the FAQ). I don't need to set any XP "compatibility mode". I also don't need safe_texture_manager, but of course YMMV.
So, no reason it won't work in SP2. Keep trying!
I can imagine the CD protection is no longer working. Using one of those, ahem, alternative executables should do the trick though.
