Safe_texture_manager is in the cam.cfg and shock.cfg. Correcting that error was third on the list.
First came the install error, then came the video codec error, then came the D3D error. Only now that the D3D error is fixed by adding safe_texture_manager is this one showing up.

Hi, read through the thread and this issue was not addressed.
Running winxp pro lite on a p2 466. Have a geforce 3 64mb, latest Forceware, directx 9.0c.
When windows autoruns the cd and I click "install", I get an hourglass for about 30 seconds, then nothing. If I run setup from the cd, the same thing happens. No errors, just a brief hourglass...that's it. tried -lgntforce, same result. Can't think of another fix that would apply to my problem.
Haven't even got past the autorun menu splash. Obviously, any help would be totally rad.

Try also to use compatibility mode for the setup exe.
Might work or not your mileage may vary.

Greetings. I get the following error when trying to run SS2 on XP, under a GeForce 4 MX 440:
Direct3d device driver does not accurately report texture memory usage.
Any suggestions on how can it be fixed, if it can?
My thanks beforehand.

hello,
i've installed Windows XP Pro with SP2 and i cant install SS2 from CD anymore. When i run setup.exe (with or without the -lgntforce option) an windows error appears "16 bit Windows subsystem" "The NTVDM CPU has occurred an invalid instruction CS:0000 IP:000b OP:f0 8b 01 70 00 Choose "Close" to terminate the application"
There's a Close and a Ignore button but both do nothing than close only this window.
Some time ago i've installed SS2 on the same computer with not SP2 but only SP1. It's only my issue or it's a common behaviour of the SP2?
Thank you

Is your CPU a Hyper Thrashing Threading whatever?
Disable it in the bios.
BTW there is a new exe that addresses the black screen problem on nvidias at least i don't know about other systems.

EDIT: Ooh, I just found answer by searching the forum. I don't want to turn any v-sync or refresh rate! Damn!

I just noticed one really weir thing.
I installed SS2 on my computer and it ran fine. Then about couple weeks later I found out that my computer crashes frequently in games, even in SS2. I updated all my drivers but it didn't work. Then after very long time of thinking and analyzing I found out that my memory was corrupted. I replaced my memory and now the games are stable again and no crashing. After all that I started playing SS2 again but the game was terribly boosted. Like someone had disabled frameratelimiter or something. Playing is horrible and melee fighting is impossible. This boosting is possible because of my videocard driver update. Any ideas?

Alright folks - I need some an answer to a question the FAQ doesn't list.
The OS I'm running is XP.
Here's the situation: I've upgraded to WMP 10. I've all the proper codecs installed to watch the videos in the /cutscenes directory. The sound and video works just fine.
However - there is a problem. The videos don't show up within the game. Thus: the video wherein the protagonist emerges from cryogenesis, or the ships taking off or landing during the first 3 years of touring, etc, aren't played within the game.
Can anyone offer any technical advice or support regarding this problem?
