As far as I know (and believe me, I really tried it, and have games like System Shock or TIE Fighter running in XP) that's next to impossible.

Installed, patched to 2.3, etc etc.
Was having a problem clicking on items in the inventory // nodes while hacking. 5 Reinstalls (yawn) fixed that one (for the most part..).
Now, I'm having the crashing after career choice issue. I know the common solutions involve adding a "current" folder (already there) and installing a codec (did it). It still crashes. Any ideas.. ?

Make sure that the 'current' folder isn't flagged as read-only.
Also, try play the intro in the main menu and tell me if it plays or not.

No luck with the intro. Intro wouldn't play for some reason. Just flashed back to the menu.

Ideas how to fix that problem.. ?

Current IS tagged 'read-only' and won't stay untagged. I have both of the problems you mentioned. Impressive, haha.

My 'current' folder is read-only too, but with a grey sign, not black.
Try rename lgvid.ax in the SS2 folder to anything else, that way the game will skip the cutscenes altogether.

is there any way to get around that problem without disabling cutscenes so I can have some idea as to what's going on or is that my only choice.. ?
