sfx_vol_2d sounds like the volume applied to "2D" sounds, like emails or logs I imagine. Try set it to the same as sfx_vol_3d, ie. -59.

still no difference.
What's puzzling me is that after I've changed and saved anything in the cam file, everything's back to previous parameters when I check back after running the game.
hope my penguin english makes sense by the way...

That's odd.
Try create a file named 'user.cfg' (not user.cfg.txt, it has to be user.cfg), and add sfx_vol_2d -59 there.
I may be leading you in the wrong direction, I have no special training in the command-line of the Dark engine that powers SShock 2. :o

didn't work.
i guess i did save it correctly as a .cfg and not as a cfg.txt file. as an alternative i also opened the cam file, took everything out except sfx_vol_2d -59 and saved this one as user.cfg.
just to be sure: do i still leave the vol_2d entry in the cam file?
could it be a problem that i've got a german edition of the game? with all this fiddling and hacking and patching... but then again, the german voice works in the cutscenes. but all text is english. i'm not even sure if this was like that when i installed/played it years ago before these problems. or i've just gone paranoid.

In install.cfg, try change the word 'english' to 'german' in the language line.

Sorry, can't help. I'm one of those people who've had very little trouble running SS2. The only trouble I've had was the old "safe texture" thing, and that was nearly 5 years ago. Further to that, I've barely, if ever had to use the "lgntforce" parameter for XP (except with the Flight Unlimited 1 Win95 demo).

finally... and this just days after finally getting system shock 1 to work. now i can play both in sequence (never played the first one) and then bioshock.
