If you need help installing it manually; just open your CD like you would open a folder, and then find the SS2 game files. I think they are in folder D:\Install\Shock2, but it's unlikely to be correct.
Hm, i don't quite get this part. Opening the CD I can't see any folder named "install"...
Bjossi on 4/4/2007 at 16:46
Code:
cd_path G:\shock
install_path F:\Games\SystemShock 2
language english
resname_base F:\Games\SystemShock 2+G:\shock
load_path F:\Games\SystemShock 2+G:\shock
script_module_path F:\Games\SystemShock 2+G:\shock
movie_path F:\Games\SystemShock 2\cutscenes+G:\shock\cutscenes
Just copy and paste that into an empty text file and save as install.cfg, then place in the main SS2 folder.

There is folder named SHOCK and you need to copy all files in that folder in your desired folder location.
After you have copied that folder in to your hard disk, find and open up program called notepad and paste these lines in it:
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\shock2.exe]
"Path"="F:\\Games\\SystemShock 2"
@="F:\\Games\\SystemShock 2\\SHOCK2.EXE"
Save it as shock2.reg and place it somewhere in your hard drive. Now doubleclick on it. You should see now Yes/No - dialog. Choose Yes. Then choose Ok. Now you can patch your game.
Game should run by now.

Yes, install.cfg goes in main game folder. You don't need to install it, it's already there. Just doubleclick on shock2.exe in your main SS folder and start playing.

yes! it's running, thanks a lottta bunch, folks.
BUT.... now there's no sound... what to do about this?
there's the hardware acceleration option. it's on OFF now and the game doesn't let me change that. if it's necessary at all. dunno.
Bjossi on 4/4/2007 at 17:48
Do you see CRF files in your SS2 folder name snd.crf and snd2.crf?
The Brain on 4/4/2007 at 17:50
Check this link for info how to enable sound hardware acceleration: (
http://www.strangebedfellows.de/index.php/topic,168.0.html) SS2 EAX (a3d drivers).
No sound? Not even in main game screen?
Then you need to fiddle with file called cam.cfg. Open it in Notepad and find this line in it "sfx_device 1". Now you need to start expirementing with numbers here. Change 1 to 2, save file, run your game. If there is no sound, you need to change 2 to 3, 3 to 4 etc. until you heard sound in game.

@bjossi: yes.
@brain: ok, i'll try that. and no, there's no sound anywhere.
snauty on 4/4/2007 at 18:15
now that's weird. i did as you mentioned and got me those a3d drivers.
now i can turn the HW acceleration ON, then OFF but not ON again.
the EAX option is not highlighted in the audio menu.
go fiddling with the cam file now.
snauty on 4/4/2007 at 18:57
great, that helped, now i've got sound. the EAX option is still not highlighted but well, there's sound.
now the next problem: game crashes when saving and after the loadscreen after the OSD/navy/marines fork path.
