Can someone figure out my problem?
I installed the game fine, full/max install. Problem is, whenever I click the .exe for SS2, it just does nothing. The cursor shows the loading hourglass thing for a few seconds, then nothing.
I know I will need the XP fix eventually, but I thought I would get farther than this before getting stuck.

Hope someone can help.
Trying to install SS2 on 2000, but am getting an error message about Microsoft Direct X 6.1 limitations? I've got DirectX 9b. How do I overcome this.
Thanks.

For the lazy among us, go to start, run, and type
X:\setup -lgntforce
Wait for fireworks, ahem the installer to complete the install and try again.
There is also a replacement exe file, but first patch the game (if is not 2.x already)
*where X is your dvd/cd drive.
(that's an lower case "L" and not a 1).
And use the search function, is fast and doesn't bite anyone, yet.

I get to the main menu, select new game, select start game:
Black screen, then crashes to message: System shock 2 has encountered a problem and needs to close... (you know the drill)
Has anyone gotten this game to run with a voodoo5 AGP card?
I am running on windows XP SP2, amigamerlin 3 final release drivers, and DX 9.0c.
I have tried everything in the FAQ and read every post in this thread.
I was unable to execute the official patch (shkpatch.exe) successfully - upon execution, I get the message "cannot determine installation directory. I have tried reinstalling the game - I suspect that the patch is looking in the registry for the location of the game executable and is not finding it... Does anyone know where I could find the correct registry entries for this game? It isn't happening automatically, but I may be able to force it or pinpoint the problem manually.
To confirm this is not a problem with the game videos, I was able to watch the videos in Winamp and WMP without a problem.
Any and all advise is appreciated. TIA.

Hi
I've read all the posts in this thread, I can't seem to find the solution to my problem.
The game runs ok, but it'll crash at random points and displays a blue screen saying that nv4_disp cycled in an infinite loop.
I have windows xp SP 1, a Geforce3 with 61.77 drivers, I tried all of the compatibility modes and added safe_texture_manager at the end of my shock.cfg file.
Thanks for your help

I've read through the FAQ, and it has guided me well. Overcome several common errors, and many thanks to those who found the solutions to them before I even knew they were problems.
Here's a new one though.
System Shock 2 runs. It goes to the menu. I click new game. I select difficulty. I click start. I watch the intro movie. It loads with the Von Braun logo.
Then it hangs.
It doesn't hang with a CTD or the Direct3d Texture error. No error at all, actually. Just ploop. No sound, black screen, three-finger-salute reports "not responding."
Ideas?

Duron 1100 mhz

Terralthra, That's also a possible D3D error, even if you don't get the message. Put the Safe_Texture_Manager in the .cfgs and then see if it works.
