Hello.
I have XPSP2, Radeon X800 and Catalyst 6.11.
My SS2 is patched to 2.3 and game crashes at the moment the cutscene is to be played. I have an error message, and when I click "Details" I can see that it was caused by lgvid.ax (see screenshot - It's Polish Windows, but you can see it ;) )

I have tried registering lgvid.ax and also installe iv5play.exe from the CD. And I am out of ideas.

Maybe this is video driver related. Try a more recent driver version like the 7.x catalysts, maybe that will do the trick.
But if it is any comfort, you aren't missing a lot by not being able to see cutscenes in-game. Just play the intro in WMP before starting the game and then play cs3.avi when you finish the SP.

Getting very frustrated trying to get SS2 to run here. It ran absolutely fine and without any need to edit or tweak anything on my old laptop, but now my desktop won't run it. It plays the first movie, and then it gives me that stupid Direct3d does not accurately report texture memory nonsense.
Goddam I was really looking forward to some co-op play on this, something I never got to do for one reason or another.
So, when I try the fixed exe or using the safe texture bit in cam.cfg, it just hangs at a black screen now instead of even giving me an error message. When I take the safe texture manager bit out of cam.cfg, it goes back to giving me the error message.
...and when I roll back my drivers, it has the exact same error. Rolled them farther back then recommended, to 30.82

Did you try any of the compatibility modes?
BadMojo on 31/3/2007 at 05:07
Ah, yes, forgot to mention that. I've tried it with 95, 98, and no compatibility. They all do the same thing. If I put that line in cam.cfg or make a user.cfg file with it, rather than erroring out it just freezes at a black screen with no error. So frustrating.

Hi, here's another dude with old problems but sorry for not reading 40 pages, since i'm running dry by now.
the problem:
can't install shock 2 on xp anymore, although i could some time ago. i don't know what has changed since then...
i checked the compatibility thing.
i tried the "drive:\setup.exe -lgntforce" command.
still, nothing happens but some cd drive rumbling.
any other suggestions? XP patches only apply after the installation, right?

You can install the game manually, but you will need an install.cfg file from someone else. (I have it when you may need it)
And same for registry key(s), otherwise the 2.3 patch will refuse to install. But I'm not sure what registry keys are needed. :erm:

so you can provide me this file? per email? watch out, i'm kinda pc-noob. ;)
Bjossi on 4/4/2007 at 16:37
Nope, no need. :)
Just tell me your CD drive letter and the location of the SS2 folder on your hard drive and I'll paste an install.cfg for you here.
If you need help installing it manually; just open your CD like you would open a folder, and then find the SS2 game files. I think they are in folder D:\Install\Shock2, but it's unlikely to be correct.
