The compatibility mode is one of the random fixes. I wouldn't enable it until you have tried every other solution available, since the comp. mode seems to do more harm than good in most cases. :erm:

I went through about 2 hours of research to finally get SS2 running, Now the game seems to run fine except that it won't show any enemies...
I can see everything else but the only time the enemies are visible is when they are towards the edge of my vision.
Any help?

That is odd, never heard of that before.
Did you try stuff like adding the line safe_texture_manager at the bottom of cam.cfg?
Or did you make the game mod ready? Things can go wrong with that process.

Yeah, i've tried the safe textures and it's a clean install so there shouldn't be any issues.
I'm running XP and an fx5200.

What video driver version do you have?

I know the game has some compatability issues with XP, and it seems I have succumbed to this also.
I run the exe, and skip the cut scenes, and start a new game in the normal way. I am then taken to the ‘loading screen’. The loading gets to 100%, the sound is there, but then I get a black screen. I also get the following error on my desktop: “ERROR: Direct32 device drive does not accurately report texture memory usage. Contact your 3d accelerator vendor for updated drivers.”
I am running Microsoft XP SP2. AMD Athlong 64 processor 3700+ 2.21ghz 2GB ram. My graphics card is ‘NVIDIA GeForce 7800GT. Driver date: 22/10/2006, driver version 6.14.10.9371’.
Is there any advice you guys can give me to help me get the game to work.
Cheers.
I have tried inserting the safe_texture_manager into the cam shock and user cfg files, but to no avail.
I'm so confused about what to do.

I really would love to get this great game working :(

You say you added safe_texture_manager to multiple files, it's an unlikely solution, but try remove the line from all files except cam.cfg.

Hi everyone,
I've read a good portion of this thread (not everything... that'd be ridiculous!), and I don't think anyone else has quite the same problem as me. After consulting with this thread to get the game running, I started playing. Everything worked really well until I got my hands on a weapon. I fired once; the projectile hit a wall fine... I fired twice, and the game froze with the marine sergeant's voice repeating the same two words over and over.
Any suggestions? This happens also if I take the Psionics route and try and use those abilities. Just running around doesn't seem to crash the game.
Thanks,
Doctor Kazefa

Thank you for your reply Bjossi. Unfortunately I could not get that to resolve the problem. I am so upset because I badly want to play System Shock 2. I've never been happier/as scared as when I have played SS2.
