Id love to give more information on the bug, if I thought this thread was still alive :X
I think its the autosave that is doing it, is there a way to turn this 'feature' off?

Most likely you'll have a .mis file that has become corrupted.

Is there a way to fix this .MIS without restarting the game? Even if i do restart, theres a high chance this will happen again. I'd like to finish the game :(

Each time you save a game, the .MIS files that will be used in that game will be generated from the original ones (just check the savegame folders and you'll see them there). So when you get to a loading point, it's one of those files that gets loaded. So it's probably one of those .MIS files that is corrupted.
If you're saying that this will happen again if you restart a new game, then probably the original .MIS file for that part of the game is corrupted. Which means that you should try and get that file from the game CD, and replace the one currently on your SS2 folder.

Though if you replace it in the savegame folder, your progress in that level will be reset. I think your inventory will stay in tact, but the level will be like you had never entered it before.

I'm having some problems getting this game running. I couldnt even get it to open, then after fooling around with it..installing the patch then a crack, and putting it in windows 98 compatibility mode..it loaded and went to the new game screen. But once i begin a new game..after the cinema is over and it loads..the game screen just goes black..its like you can hear the level about to load because you can hear sound, then it just stops..how do I fix this?
I tried to do the "set affinity" thing, but when i went to task manager and right clicked goto process, then right clicked on the process itself..i had no set affinity option, i just had "end process, end process tree, debug, set priority"
none of which allow me to adjust the cpu usage. now i dont know if that even needed to be done, but i just wanted to attempt it anyways.
is there a way to fix this?

Did you try other compatibility modes, and add the line safe_texture_manager at the bottom of cam.cfg?

Hey smokey,
I just had the same problem as you and the solution is NOT to run the game in compatibility mode (when you installed the game with "x:\setup.exe -Lgntforce" x= cd drive)
good luck! ;)

It is nice of you to try to help, but remember that no one has the same computer. One solution may work for one person but not the other, no matter how similar the problem is. :)

That's right. But I just had the exact same symptoms like smokey and I tried any other thing (compatibility modes, that safe_texture_manager thing etc.) and I always got a black screen after first cinema...
On my system (Notebook with core 2 duo, xp, onboard-graphic:() the only way to get the game running is to install with -Lgntforce and don't use a comp.mode. (and run on only 1 cpu)
I didn't find this combination here so I thougt it might be of some use for others when I post it...
