I did that, but reading other posts here makes me think windows named the file user.cfg.txt and I just can't see it (I thought it was odd that the icon didn't change when I renamed it).
What do you mean by making it "mod ready"? I applied the patch, I even used a version of the EXE that I found here that was supposedly to help people who were having the same problem as me.

If you install Rebirth, or any other mod or FM; you have to make the game mod ready.
You just can't have missed that info. It's in the readme, in the FAQs...:erm:
As for user.cfg.txt, that happens because you are hiding extensions of known filetypes, go to Folder Options in Windows to disable it. Then you can rename extensions successfully.

I have a problem playing the cutscene's in the game through the game. I can successfully play the cutscene's through winamp though... what seems to be my problem?

Did you try reInstall the Indeo codecs?
You can find & install them from the SS2 CD. The setup file is located in X:\iv5play.exe, X being the letter of the disc drive you used to read the disc.

Yes actually i did attempt to reinstall them, and i got an error message saying that i had a newer version installed... and i wasant sure if deleting the codecs i have now would help

Well, I'd not install them if you have a newer version then.
But can you describe the symptoms? What happens when the game attempts to play a cutscene?

When i attempt to start a new game or play the intro it shoots back to my desktop, mostly black then comes up with an error messages saying that System Shock 2 needs to close. Bypassing Cutscenes lets the game play flawlessly.
Also i though that i should possibly get rid of the codec due to this site (

You know, that is the very same thing that happens to me. I just disabled the cutscenes since I had seen them before anyways. But if you are new to the game, you could just watch them in the correct order. Watch Cs3.avi after beating the game. ;)

Try add the line safe_texture_manager at the bottom of cam.cfg in the main folder of the game.
