DxDiag says that I don't have Direct3d driver
Install DX9c and the latest ForceWare drivers from nVidia.

Repeat.
I'm not sure, but a No-CD patch exists (check over at GCW) that should remove any problems your having due to SafeDisc, the total POS that it is, and let you play without your CD in the drive.

Here is a reminder to you all.
System Shock 2 is NOT abandonware. Downloading a copy, no matter what the source is illegal, and breaks our (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/regs.htm) Forum Guidelines which you agreed to abide by when you signed up to these forums.
If you're having problems with a warez version of the game, that's you're own damn fault. You can (
http://www.gameswarehouse.com.au/longpage.asp?gameid=2950) purchase the game online for an excellent price. £16 shipped from Australia to the UK.
Excuses such as "I don't have a credit card" or "I can't afford it" mean nothing here.
So I reiterate, System Shock 2 is not abandonware, downloading it puts in it the same boat as any other warez software.
Please note some parts of, or entire posts from this thread have been deleted.
David, some people seem to not be able to get the version they purchased working...if they can get another version available online working...wouldn't that be a plus? I mean, they bought it and all...same deal as if they No-CD'd the game because of copyprotection issues with their CD drive.
David on 11/8/2004 at 19:16
What?
There are only two versions of Shock2. Patched and unpatched and you receive both - on separate discs no less - when you purchase it from Gameswarehouse in Australia.
If they "need" a NO CD crack then they must find it themselves. TTLG does not allow linking to websites that carry them, or direct people to other sites that carry them.

Thanks Necro, the game works now.
However, its not without its faults, although they are pretty negligeable.
Symptoms seem to be: part of the sound is missing, mostly in dialog (i.e., when someone speaks, the first 1 - 3 words go missing most of the time), otherwise clear sound), walk/run-speed (the default) is insane fast and so, the game seems to run faster than it should.
Ive already tried each compatability mode, but to no end. Same results across the board. It might have something to do with the sound acceleration, but Im not sure. Ill fiddle around, but any help is always welcome.

What framerates are you getting? If it's more than 60 Hz, you'll have to turn VSync on and set your monitor to 60Hz. Make sure you also have 16 sound channels, as well.
Kingsadist on 12/8/2004 at 05:36
My monitor is set ot 60Hz (default), and I believe VSync is on.
The number of sound channels is set to 16 with Hardware Acceleration to 'ON' (for some reason, the game will not load savegames if the Hardware Acceleration isnt on).
Still the same problems.

Heya everyone, i've recently purchased System Shock 2, the Asia/Pacific version, and i'm having trouble running it.
I'm not having the same problems as most of the people here, i've been able to run it pretty much straight outta the box, no graphical problems or what not, no mucking around with fixes or anything (i've installed version 2.3, but that's all).
The problem i'm having is this.... I can't click on items in the inventory (I can move the mouse over it, but when I left click to move the item, nothing happens, if I have a pistol out, it fires where i'm pointing), or use the hacking thing (I can click start, it deducts nanites, but I cannot click on the boxes I need to link up).
Any help would be wonderful.
*EDIT*
Cancel any need for help, its working now, all it needed was 5 unistall/reinstall's... And then it just started working... for no reason... nothing else had changed.... I don't mind :D

OK, first a comment that may help someone...I just installed the game (the re-packaged "Classic" Version) on my new Alienware (see my sig) running WinXP Pro.
Game installed and ran fine without any problems. However, I was told during installation that my system had OLD Intel Codec drivers and that I needed to install the newer ones. I DECLINED this install. I'm curious if maybe others that have had problems did install the Intel Codecs? Could be WinXP doesn't need them or installing them interferes with something?
Question: I want to also confirm what happens when you don't install the Codecs? How would I know if I am having a problem with the game? What part of the game do the Codecs affect? I want to make sure that I didn't make a mistake by not installing them.
The reason I ask is that right before you start the tutorial in the space station thing I heard a voice and some crackling noise, but there wasn't any video with it. The introduction and all played fine...just right before I saw the space station and was able to move around there was a black screen and a voice saying some things for about 10 seconds. Could be just by design, but...could also be caused by the missing codecs?
Is there a way to check to see if they are working properly? Maybe something that would be missing if they aren't properly installed.?
Thanks!
