Yea, I'm pretty sure it is dual-core.

Then click on the FAQ, the thread with the bold & red font, that is supposed to grab your attention, and read about how to fix dualcore issues with Dark engine games.

Maybe the game is unable to create the savegame folders for some odd reason. You can try create a folder named save_0 in the main SS2 directory and then try save into the first slot.
I wonder if the folder is labeled 'read only'?

Hmmmm.... I've done everything said in this thread and the other one linked, and I still can't get the game to play. It plays the menu, then the intro movie, then flickers a few times and goes grey. have to alt + tab out and close it.
Any ideas? I really need to play this game for research purproses. Writing about SHODAN :p

I seem to have come across a unique problem. I can play the game just fine without cutscenes, of course. However, when I click the intro button thats on the main page, it plays the intro movie. So, the problem isn't with the drivers. Anyone know what's going on? I'm using a 'modernized' .exe that still uses the CD. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

What exactly is the problem? If the intro plays, so will the other cutscenes.

Using Vista and turning the second core off, then setting up the desktop shortcut for SS2 (or Thief) to run the game as an administrator, this is what enabled the videos to run for me.

I can see that this thread is really old, but I wanted to thank everyone who posted. Thanks to this, I was able to run SS2 on my *various expletives redacted* Vista laptop. Now if someone would just mod the game to be more accurate to real nuclear physics, I'd be the happiest woman on Earth aside from whoever's dating Yu Darvish. ;)
Thank you! Thank you! Also, thank you!
