That is pretty much what I did, my BAT looks slightly different though.
As a side note I never installed VDMSound myself, the sound is perfectly fine without it, at least in my case.

I started a new game and for a while could move the cursor at a decent speed(grabbed all the stuff from the briefcase!) but now after loading a game if I just bump the mouse it crashes immediately!
I can't select 640x480, so I figured Mouse2kv was doing something bad(even though the mouse moved at a decent speed and stayed in the viewable area.) I changed the values to 320 200 and STILL it crashes when I bump the mouse!
Specs:
Win2k SP4
AMD64 4000+ 2.4GHz
PS/2 Keyboard + Mouse
Onboard Audigy2
nVidia 6800GS
1024mb RAM

How does your BAT file look like?

This FAQ has worked well...but one issue that I am not sure has been addressed here is that I am getting graphical distortion when running in high-res...basically it looks psychadelic...which would be fine if I were on shrooms right now, but I'm just trying to play in high-res.
Music was off at first as well, but I turned of the Vesa option in the VDM properties...but either way the graphical distortion remains when running in high-res. It looks gorgeous in dosbox, but then it's too slow.
Any thoughts on how to resolve the graphical distortion issue at high-res?

Hello everybody I'm new here, after discovering that people have gotten System Shock to run on XP. I tried to get my CD version to work, but my problem is that I can't even get the installer to run (INITIAL.EXE) with or without VDMS. Without VDMS I just get a blank dos window with a blinking cursor, and with VDMS it shows some info about VDMS "Licenesed by GNU blablabla..." and then does nothing.
My system specs are
P4 3.06Ghz
512mb ram
Win XP sp1
40gb hdd
PS/2 Keyboard. USB Mouse
ATi Radeon 9800 Pro
SoundMAX on-board digital audio
Any help is well appreciated:thumb:

I really suggest trying new WIP DosBox from:
(

With dynamic core and auto cycles - on my athlon 3200+, System Shock is running smoothly in 640x480! :thumb:

Hmm....that works almost too well...
Seriously, though, thanks...that's awesome...now soon as I finish UW1 and 2 I can dig into the best SS game out there.
Oddly enough UW is very sluggish under the 07062007 CVS build. For some reason the CPU doesn't max out.
By the way...is it possible to run the CD version from the HD? I want to put my CD away where I know I won't lose it...I keep misplacing my older CDs.

Yeah, you just need to alter the paths in the config file to point to where you put the files.

Is it needed to be done in more places than cyb.cfg? Because when I move the CD folder and write the new path, it refuses to even reach the first intro logo.
