@Nothegger :
Could it be in relation with mouse acceleration feature in your drivers ? I never liked this option with any mouse so I allways desactivate it...
@ToxicFrog :
I agree with you : there's a problem with the CITALOG.RES file
- I'm sure I invoke it as CDSHOCK
- Yes I configure SS1 via the INSTALL.EXE in the installed dir
- All other sounds work (considering there's no footstep sounds in SS1, I didn't notice that before because of the music...)
- How do I check md5sum|sha1sum of CITALOG.RES ?
- Citalog.res size : 52 721 946 octets | size on disk : 52 723 712 octets
- I tried moving CDROM/DATA folder in other standard place (c:/sshock/CDROM for example) without success
- I tried configuring sound channel numbers, without success
- I tried disabling MIDI : no Audiologs but big framerate improvement but the game is very empty without music (not enough environmental sounds)
@dethtoll : Glad you managed to fix your problem ! Weird... Is there any way to know which update was responsible for community's knowledge ?

If the problem is in SS2, then this is the wrong thread to post that.

What do you expect from someone using one of those creepy anime smileys?

Identical match. And I know mine is a good copy.

Allright then. This is my first post ever on TTLG-forums.
I must admit that I didn't read more than 3 pages from this thread and I'm not going to read all of them (takes too much time).
I got System Shock working on my machine and everything is fine except that the music is running about 3/4 of it's original speed.
Here is two problems that I had and how I fixed them:
1. Slowing of game speed and sound: game and music runs fine but then it slows down and speeds up again over and over.
Fix: shortcut to cdshock exe-> properties-> advanced-> performance-> try to reduce cpu usage to on and set the bar to halfway.
2. Game crashes when starting/loading.
Fix: Don't touch the mouse in main menu. Use keyboard only.
I haven't figured out how to keep the music on it's original speed and I'm out of ideas... help please?
OS: Win2000, sp4
cpu: amd 3000+ barton
mobo: Asus A7V600

@Skizomeuh
Your md5sum is good, so it's not a problem with citalog.res.
When I mentioned moving CDROM/DATA/ - did you edit CYB.CFG accordingly after moving it? Failing that, did you reinstall?
I know that it can't be missing the entire CD, as CDSHOCK.BAT won't be able to start if that's the case.
The fact that it continues to display text logs even after you select Audio Only is very confusing. The only logs it should do that for is the ones that have no speech, like the one you leave for yourself in the closet.
@Sturm Jäger
Music problem: Performance->Try to reduce CPU usage, but move the slider all the way to the left rather than leaving it at halfway.
Crash problem: this is an issue with the mouse getting moved outside the screen area by mouse2kv. While in 320x200, make sure the mouse is on screen before switching modes (this applies to new games, loading, and the fullscreen map).
I note that both of these problems have already been discussed, so if you'd read the entire thread you wouldn't have needed to ask. :p

The slow music problem is still there. The slider is as left as it can get. Music in the main menu is perfect. I'm using general midi as my soundcard. The real soundcard is integrated in my motherboard. AC'97.
