You are not looking hard enough, or via the right means. And if you keep using those stupid emoticons, you might well be crucified.

Works well for me, thanks to redmonkey's tips, and without the mouse program (it causes crashes), but it still crashes when I try to set it up the bo-- err, change resolution to 640x480. So I guess I'll have to play it in low-res...

The FAQ is starting to suffer from bit rot -- in particular, the VDMS-related info following the release of VDMS-2.1.0, and some fixes and similar that have been turned up in this thread but never rolled into the FAQ. Is XenivouS still around? I'd be willing to write v1.1 if he's willing to let me...

Hmm... I tried to to run the new high-res mod on the System Shock that I had installed but not played for a while (on Win 2k)... it didn't work (could be I was just using it wrong in the batch file), and the sound won't work anymore, either. It used to, and I've rechecked my VDMS settings, but now the program just grays out the Audio box on the menu. The setup utility locates VDMS and plays the samples just fine. Can anyone troubleshoot this?
cdshock.bat:
@echo off
C:\SYSSHOCK\nolfb.com
C:\SYSSHOCK\MOUSE2KV.EXE 640 480 8 8 C:\SYSSHOCK\dos4gw.exe C:\SYSSHOCK\cdshock.exe
CYB.cfg:
midi_list 0
lowres_cutscenes 0
midi_io -1
midi_irq -1
inp6d -1
digi_list 0
joystick 131
midi_card 1
midi_dma -1
midi_drq -1
cd_data_dir_path C:\SYSSHOCK\cdrom\data (I've copied the folder to there)
digi_io -1
digi_irq -1
digi_card 1
digi_dma -1
language 0
digi_drq -1
Probably not there because I've checked these, but are those wrong or are there any other suggestions?

I also forgot to add... where in the batch file do you put the ss1hr.exe in?
mouse2kv dos4gw ss1hr cdshock?
or mouse2kv ss1hr dos4gw cdshock?
or elsewhere?

I'm reaching one of the same errors reached by one of the other members. The game works like a charm but at resolutions of 640x400 or 640x480, the game will work, move, and render, but crash if I move or click the mouse.
I'm on windows XP, and my mouse is a USB optical mouse. I'm using the microsoft default mouse.

slinky:Try solution in this thread (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=100041) System Shock 1 in 800x600 and 1024x768 [v2.0] [nV4 issues fixed!]. Under red title.
And you can try to remove nolfb.com from your .bat-file.

The thread in question had instructions on how to achieve resolutions above 640x480, which wasn't really the problem. The associated GeForce fix was for the same issue. Regardless, I downloaded and applied the GeForce fix to no effect. And noLFB.com was already removed from the bat file. I've used just about every bat file arrangement I could think of, so I'm just using the DOS extender atm. Thanks, though! I've just gotten used to playing it at 320 x 240 or whatever that second-lowest res is.

Slinky, do you have a non-usb mouse to test?
