So, for the last 4 days I have not had to help the Pegster use the bathroom! This is SUCH good news, I can't even explain how life changing this is. I assume this must be like toilet training your children (how old do kids need to be to learn this skill? mine is 80 years old), what a huge step forward! I have been working as a "carpenter" lately, mostly building built-in entertainment centers. To amuse myself lately in my spare time, I have been making some custom workstations in my garage. I made a garden/commonly used tool center, and a car vacuum holder. A week or so ago, I had the idea of making an adult diaper dispenser to install in her bathroom, and it has made such a difference in my life! At the top is a holder for the Depends, and below is a built-in waste can. Amazingly, she has learned to pull a fresh diaper from the dispenser, and deposit used diapers into the can. I have to use a sharpie to label the diapers, she insists on putting them on backwards if I don't write "front" and "back" on them (pro-tip, they have a "dot" on them, that is the back, think of it as a label), but as long as I mark them, she so far has been using them correctly. If anyone else here is dealing with an Alzhiemers/Senile Dementia parent, I would be happy to sell you a Patented Montags' Diaper Dispenser, only $99.99 usd.(shipping and handling extra, and I can handle the hell out of these things, so expect handling to run another $99.99) On a related note, is anyone else here dealing with a parent with Alzhiemers, I would welcome any input you may have.

Thanks Kolya! Yep, another step in the right direction, one of many as of late. She dresses herself (I have to lay out her clothes) and can tie her own shoes. She eats the meals I make without prompting. (although she did put salad dressing on a plate of spaghetti a few weeks ago, lol) My biggest concern is another fall. She has fallen twice in as many years, racking up a broken pelvis and last summer a broken hip. Before that she was very active, my yard was the envy of the neighborhood due to her OCD, a stray leaf or twig didn't stand a chance. Spring has finally arrived here, and I was amazed at how much crap I had to pick up the last week just to de-winterize my lawn. Unfortunately, I can't let her loose out there any longer, one more fall will probably kill one of us. Her mental problems are my main enemies now, she can't grasp the idea of using her walker even though there is no way she can get around without it. Her OCD is so strong that she literally can't stop herself from "leaking" out of the door to retrieve a leaf that a squirrel has bitten off and dropped on the lawn. When I was a child she would vacuum the house every day, whereas my schedule is a bit more flexible. Or it was, to prevent her from attempting vacuuming up those terrible footprints in the carpet nap, I have had to adopt her rules. I moved out when I was in high school and apparently daily hoovering is not enough, now the carpet must be vacuumed anytime the vacuum tracks have been disturbed by nasty footprints! Hehe, proofreading this has brought me to the conclusion that in order to preserve my own sanity,(such as it is) I may be forced to pull a One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest on her. Stay tuned for further developments.
