Most information on the NewDark version of the T2MP mod seems to be scattered across forum posts or completely written off as pointless. The most you can even find on YouTube is a few playthroughs from almost a decade ago. There was no real tutorial on how to set it up and try it yourself. I wanted to change that.
After hours of testing, now you too can play Thief 2 in a way it wasn't really meant to be played.
This tutorial covers installing and setting up the multiplayer mod, either by running (
https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=149669) T2Fix or (
https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=146448) installing NewDark manually. It also walks through either emulating LAN with programs like (
https://vpn.net/) Hamachi or (
https://www.radmin-vpn.com/) Radmin, and also setting up a direct connection via (
https://github.com/sungaila/NewDarkGlobalServer) Sungaila's NewDarkGlobalServer. You can also grab a (
https://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=12190.0) patched version of the exe by figgis so the server doesn't burst into tears when you try to connect more than 3 people.
Huge thanks to vfig, echmier, goldenlumia, sungaila, and figgis for helping make this work as simply as possible, and to pals who helped playtest it with me to find common issues.

Whoa, thanks for this!
It'd be great to see the MP scene happening again.
I think I never set it up myself because it's a bit of a slog and unclear what to do.

Yeah, I found it weird that most info was somewhat vague and unclear so I figured the best course of action would be to set it up in the easiest way(s) possible. Thank you!

I'm always curious how this multiplayer server works under the hood, for some online games there is a term netcode
anyway this is a superb work, thanks for the tutorial
