Hi guys
how do you make a good mage? what skills do you need, what sign should i pick etc,

i just did a similar thing in starting a new character...i figured that i should take as many magic skills as possible and as few weapon and armor as possible...so i chose altmer as the race for increased magicka, battlemage as class so that all of my major skills are magic except for axe, and atronach as the birthsign also for increased magicka...the mage also gives you a miagicka boost just not as big and you can regenrate your magicka when sleeping as opposed to atronach...
ultimately though it comes down to you and what you want your character to be like...

Can you really make a good mage with the atronach sign? I always thought that needign potions or ingredients to regenerate ALL your magicka would just be too crippling. You'd have tro be really careful about when you use spels, and personally if I play a mage I want to be able to sling spells all over the place.

Restore Magicka potions made through Alchemy usually weigh around 0.1 each and at 100 Alchemy & 100 Intelligence they restore a total of 640 Magicka (16 Magicka/second for 40 seconds) with the Grandmaster Alchemy tools. A High-Elf/Atronarch with 100 Intelligence has 450 Magicka.
In addition the Spell Absorption you get from Atronarch is much more than you can ever enchant yourself as constant effect, this gives you a really powerful defensive ability against spells which is needed if you play High Elf.
