After enjoying System Shock 2, I've belatedly bought Deus Ex but am having trouble getting through the basic training. There is a walkway with a gap you have to jump across, but you can't get much of a run up on it because there is a pip you have to crouch shortly under before the gap. Anyone got any advice on how to judge these kind of jumps - ie when to press jump as you run if you can't see your feet?
I had trouble with the jumping on the Rickenback and BOTM in System Shock 2; I suspect I am missing something obvious to people with more experience of this FPS type genre.

If I recall correctly, you actually need to run just after the pipe and then jump, hoping you will jump just in time and not too late. But it is rather hard to perform. Hopefully, you shouldn't have much trouble with jumps in the game, and even if it's the case, you could simply choose another path or use the related augmentation.
In some aspects, the training is harder than the actual game. :) Especially in the stealth section, if you aren't using the very useful item allowing you to make it very easily.
Hope it helps!

Look down and watch your shadow, ('cause if you don't get feet, you gotta get something, no?) try and judge when you should jump based on how close it is to the edge... it becomes intuitive after a while (or you may be in trouble).
Alneyan is right though, the stealth course is more than you'll ever need in-game. Unless you want to do it with out any kills... But I'd sugest going through the game a few times (maybe like 5, or 20) before attempting that.

The only time I've used the stealth techniques was when I
had to escape from the NSF headquarters after broadcasting the warning signal to Silhouette. I crept down about three flights of stairs, and crept around the square barriers behind the guards who patrol around. Then when I was on the floor that overlooks the ground floor, I jumped out the window onto a cardboard box and quickly dived into the secret hole down to the basement. I wanted to get out without killing any UNATCO, even though I'd been killing pretty much all the terrorists I came across... just seemed like too big a change, too quickly. When I got back up to ground level outside the building, I turned on Ballistic Protection and just ran past them.
