How To Guide: Convert Thief1/2 into Thief 3 (mis2t3d) - by [NAUC]Chief

yeah retexturing by hand, and that took ages and its only about an eighth of the total map, think that to fully accomplish it, it will need new textures etc.
The sky is just a plain skybox which i put in to stom the HOM effect because the convertor also tells the bsp which sections should be set to fake backdrop (sky) obviously id make something a bit better than just stars.
As to the copyright I did wonder about the t2 demo version, then we can climb angelwatch again :cheeky:

I always prefered 'unexpected guest' over 'life of the party' - but its a long time since I had a copy of the demo, or could get a copy to work. I'd enjoy a remake, for sure.
Anyone know of a contact or department at Eidos I can get in touch with about the copyright?

[QUOTE='[NAUC]Chief']okay i got the thief gold training mission working, atm its in two seperate parts...
Okay the map as one whole is definately out of the question, but split in two
Are you telling that even such a small mission like Keeper's Training isn't possible in TDS in one piece?
Someone else mentioned that Life of the Party would have to be divided in eight parts to be playable. If that's true... I don't know, I hoped for maximum 2 parts, but eight :erg: So, it seems that removing XBox out of equation dosn't improve maximum possible loadzone size much

There's a lot of mistakes in the original maps for thief dark/gold like zero zero zero terrain brushes, does the converter throw these out or add them to the level for use in t3ed.

I don't see why it would remove them, UT doesn't have any problems with 0,0,0 IIRC.

It was me who said the eight parts- the reason is by the look of it the maps brushes can add up to no more than 7mb (judging by unr sizes of the t3 unr files) , atm i have lotp split in 4, parts 1 and three are 4mb each and run fine, part 2 (from the tower fighting guards up to the area near necromancers spire) weigh in at 23mb and angel watch weighs in at 14mb. So t3 crashes on trying to play them.
Most of the missing brushes are complex roof brushes in lotp, everything else imported just fine.

So am I right to think that if the maps were rebuilt with static meshes, they could be much larger (gamespace-wise) without crashing?

You could take missions from games the user doesn't nescesary own (for example use a T1 mission to build a T2 FM) as long as you modify it significantly; just copying the mission is a legal problem, but modifications are OK. This was discussed many times before.

Copy away , you really think Eidos are going to sue an individual FM author over something like this. Please. It's not like they're making much money form the original games now anyway, they sell for a few quid now, and I'm sure Eidos' cut of that is less than £1.
So what could they argue - that by making copies of the original missions for TDS you're forcing people to buy TDS instead of T1&2, thereby generating more money for them?
How much money do you think Eidos could make from the few people who would consider buying T1&2 these days at bargain basement prices?
I look forward to the day when both complete games will exist to be played in the Dark Mod. There's not much point making them in T3ed because of the lack of water - some, like precious cargo, would simply be impossile without it, and many others would have to be significantly altered, so we're never going to have the complete set for T3ed.
