Ok I was out to lunch to day they explained how to do a spell. Manual says L mouse clk on spell, I get a message saying do I want to delete spell, (I don't). Dont know what to do next, somebody explain to this dumb guy? thankx

How'd you get that? I've been TRYING to delete a spell. I refuse to read the manual but I'm probably going to soon...
You probably just messed up the controls a bit. In the game, hit Esc., go to options then... controls I think. Go ahead and set those to default and try left clicking again.

Yay! I just opened the manual too, heh. But if his shift key was stuck down, wouldn't that mean he'd be running all the time in game?

He might well be.
Or the game just thinks it's stuck, but only in the menu...sounds odd, but I've seen odder. And this same thing has happened to me. Trying to actually use shift-click to delete a spell seems to snap it out of it.
