Hey guys!
No, this is not a tutorial but a question about how i can capture small videoclips from System Shock 1. I am using System Shock Portable which works perfectly fine on my system, so i don't really want to switch to DosBox or anything.
Also, i am not really sure about programs like Fraps in terms of if they are even working with SS1 ( i think i remember that i tried sometime ago and it only captured a black screen ).
I thought maybe someone here would know a good way to do this.
Also i would like the clips i capture to be small in size. Any idea how to do that without much effort ? I know i have to use some sort of codec but i don't want to install a big program like Adobe Premiere for just some small clips.
Yeah, that would be pretty much all. I hope someone here does know :)

(
http://dege.freeweb.hu/) DgVoodoo and Fraps should work together. DgVoodoo is included in Shock Portable. Another option is secondary computer with special graphics card which have video recording capability from external sources. Or you could use DosBox to record clips and (
http://www.virtualdub.org/) VirtualDub to edit them.

So now i managed to record a videoclip in System Shock but i still got one problem left.
The Mousespeed is too fast ingame (since i had to choose option 1 instead of option 3)
Is there any way i can have the mousespeed fixed AND the possibility to use fraps ?

Oh and maybe some could tell me a good codec to use.
Thanks in advance :)

Hmm, maybe you can use program called mouse2kv.exe to slow down mouse cursor speed. It's included in Portable. I don't know if it does work for this kind of problem because it's only used to increase cursor speed in higher game resolutions. What screen resolution are you using?
And for codec, I would suggest you to use Xvid.

Yeah i was already using the mouse2kv.exe but how can i start the mouse2kv.exe AND the dgVoodoo / dgVesa file (which i need to use fraps with System Shock).
And i think you must be mistaken about mouse2kv. Everytime i ran SS1 on Windows XP the mouse cursor was way too FAST not too slow. The mouse2kv thingy fixed that. Well anyway, my problem is, the standard SSP.exe only offers you the option to either start with mouse2kv OR dgVesa. I am a bit clueless right now how i can have both but i am pretty sure it is possible because i think that i have done that sometime in the past, too.
/edit:
Ouch nevermind, i just need to use mouse2kv.exe with the already patched vesa.exe *.*
And yeah, maybe you are right about the higher resolutions. Strange, i never used the tool for that reason :P
/edit2:
But i got another problem now. When using the vesa.exe the game doesn't seem to run right. I mean like running a brand new game on a very old computer. The strange thing is, it seems to work SOMETIMES but most of the time it's not. Well IF i get it to run right, it's working perfectly fine until i exit the game.
Any ideas ?

I have a DVD burner hooked into my VCR, and a composit/SVideo output hub on my PC, high-quality :p
(If MegaBrutal can impliment it, then shweet!)

So i pretty much figured the problems source out. It has something to do with the configuration of the dgVoodooSetup.exe
If i switch to DOS Mode, then go to the Vesa Tab and then switch the field 0x13 Support OFF - the game runs fine, except that my cursor is stuck in the upper left corner ingame. If i switch it on, the game doesn't run smooth anymore, the sound stutters, but i can use the mouse perfectly. Any suggestions what i could do ?
/edit:
Well i figured several ways where my game runs fine and where it doesn't. Bad thing is, either it runs smooth but doesn't support fraps or it doesn't run smooth and fraps is working. I got it running smooth in window mode with fraps supported but if i start recording in window mode, it forces the FPS down to the FPS limit the avi file is recorded in. There has to be SOME way to record clips from SS1 without problems :(
