Nursery.
I used to own a very large rare plant nursery (couple thousand varieties) as my day-job; until the end of 2002, when we could no longer ride out the shitty economy left in the wake of 9-11 and the encroaching box-stores that have basically killed the rare plant market.
Now that my "gotta-do-this-to-survive-since-we-have-kids-to-feed-and-writing-doesn't-pay-for-shit" temporary job has ended (yeah, Michigan) I'm back to running a much, much smaller nursery to help make ends meet.
I wish I still lived in Michigan. I moved back to Ohio 5 years ago after Dearborn beat my ass proper. I do get back there accasionally, and I am a lifelong gardener/landscaper (since age 4 thanks to a grandmother that studied horticulture and her husband a botany professor). I would love to hook up some time and check out your digs and talk plants.
Ha, needless to say, I was quite popular with the home-grown stoners in college.

As someone who works in the banking industry; I feel duty bound to comment on this.
Today while we were stealing money from the UK public, I made the point to a colleague at how things would be so much easier if the whole world was under one currency. It would eliminate fx differences, complicated transactions and generally make our lives simpler.
The response, as expected was that sure that would be nice but then we'd all be out of a job and the fx trading industry would fall to its knees.
We did agree that the USD/GBP rate has got better and has been pretty much solid at 1.62 the last quarter. Start of the year was a right motherfucker anyway.
In conclusion; the Euro wins.

Well you are in London, even with a favourable exchange rate it would still be doing horrible things to your wallet.
Apparently it's (
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/budgettravel/6487100/London-is-now-good-value-for-tourists-says-Lonely-Planet.html) ok if you're visiting. Still wouldn't like to be renting anywhere though

I'm liking this a lot. I got a Leatherman multitool from the States for $100 less than it would have cost me here, that's after currency conversion and including postage
Leathermen are the fucking best. I bought a (
http://www.leatherman.com/multi-tools/full-size-tools/crunch.aspx) Crunch about 5 years ago for £55 off eBay. Best purchase I've ever made. So useful when I was working on music gigs and festival sites. I actually managed to break the vice grip pliers by stamping on it while not realising that bike pedals unscrew in opposite directions. Anyway, sent it off to the British repairguy who replaced the whole thing and sent it back free of charge. Thanks, lifetime guarantee.

Guys, you don't want it to be easy to buy shit, you want it be easy to sell shit ... remember?

Where are you paying £10.85 to see a movie?! Okay, it's London, but still...
Cineworld do a monthly pass for £13.50, £16.50 to include their trio of West End cinemas, and you can see as many films as you want - this served me well when I lived within walking distance of one of them.
Okay, to be fair, I was using typical adult Leicester Square prices to make a point. The norm seems to be 10 pounds, which is still far more than I'm willing to pay. Thankfully a lot of places have cheaper student prices, and the closest cinema (Genesis) is a lot cheaper, particularly on mondays (where things are 5 pounds to 5.50 - about normal US pricing, though still more than the theatre back home).

Vue in the O2 (Millennium Dome) was £7 IIRC and I'm not a student. Fantastic screen, sound and seating

O2 Centre is 9.95, whereas simply Greenwich (O2) is 8.60. Not sure which one is the millennium dome.

Surrey Quays Odeon? Might be cheaper, closer also?
