The man in the ruined outpost told me to head to Arx, and to go through the goblin tunnels to get to it and gave me papers to enter.
I gave the paper to the goblin guard outside (and then killed him) and I went down and tried to find a way, picked a few locks, etc. yet there isn't any clear direction for this.
Yes, some might say "no hand holding", but really this game tells you absolutely jack shit about what needs to be done. The journal is horribly vague.
I went down to the 3rd floor since I saw the red X on the map, yet trying to get to it leads me to a special wall that is "too strong to break down", even with my hammer and fireballs and such.

you have to sign the authorization (give it to Polsius in teh tavern AFTER you free him from prison) then go to the three goblins guarding the door and give the first one the signed authorization and the gem dealer's license and he'll open the door.
Don't kill them!!!!
then you'll be in level 3, go up ahead untill you reach goblin city gate(note that u can't enter) tehn go to the bridge (note the troll guarding teh entrance to troll city, don't go there)go to left and then you'll se some stairs.
Now your on level 2,theres not much to do in here just some rats, some spiders and a BIG POISONOUS SPIDER!!!!!!!Be ware he's very powerfull, altough you can find him on a big spider web next to the entrance to Arx.He is guarding an emerald i suggest you NOT fight him, attack him and lead him away then RUN LIKE HELL to the cave he was in then get the emerald and run again to the stars icon.
Thats how you get in arx :thumb:

Guess what either way you've to head back to the goblin prison and pass through it, then keep going past goblin city, ignore trolls for the moment, go left and then below take a right turn, stairwell to the caves, then through the caves do an U turn when you find the small pool of water keep going right to another stairwell, and voila, arx gates are there.

Sorry, I know this is an old thread, but it is relevant to my question.
I only found the stairs to the left of the troll guard AFTER sneaking/jumping past the guard, then sneaking and running from all the trolls inside. Then I gave up on that and found the stairs to Arx, talked to the king, etc. But, now when I go back to the troll guard, he kills me and I can't get him to talk/help. Did I "break" this quest by sneaking past the trolls, and now have to reload prior to sneaking, or is there a way to calm him down enough that he'll help?

The only way I know of that may work is if you give the gift to greu. Greu is near the dragon area in that set of caves off the first goblin area where you were in the dungeon. He will tell you he wants a gift. Goto the arx library and talk to the snake lady to get the book. Give it to greu and he will give you a troll gift that makes all trolls your friend. Otherwise you may need to restore a previous save. Hope this helps!
Edit:After talking to greu you may need to talk to his friend in the troll caves area to find out about the gift before doing the spoiler thing.

That spoiler thing (yeah, I peeked) sounds like fun, so I'll give that a try! If it doesn't work, I'll reload and try to replay all my actions in Arx.

Well, unless I'm doing something wrong (or NOT doing something right), this method does not work.
I explored awhile and found greu and talked to him. Then, went back to the snake lady and tried to talk to her, but she only repeated the same standard lines and said nothing about a book for greu. None of the carryable books seem appropriate for greu.
I also could not find greu's friend, so I'm guessing maybe I killed him previously. Maybe that is the problem.
Anyway, I'm just going to reload prior to making the trolls mad.

Greu's friend is in the troll caves across from the goblin kings area. He tells you to get a book. Then the snake lady will give it to you.
If you killed all the trolls, then thats the problem. Don't let them see you steal anything from their mine either. Don't kill everything..lol You could mess up other quests. Good luck on your replay! :):D
