I spent a couple of months in Glasgow in 2000, and my mum would call, not to see how I was doing but to get IT support. She wasn't bad with computers, but she never learnt the proper names for things - so here she'd be, trying to explain in her own words what the problem was and I'd try to understand what she was actually talking about, and then I'd try to translate my suggestions into her terminology. I was very tempted to use some choice Glaswegian epithets during those phone calls...

Very.
My mom has this shtick where she tries my patience with theoretical problems. beginning with something mundane and then becoming denser and denser to the point when I just give up and just say out loud being that stupid is impossible. It's very funny to the whole family, and they're actually surprised by how long I "resist" most of the time.
Curiously, no mention ever of the fact this makes it look like I'm helping my mom because I earnestly believe she's got the IQ of a gerbil when it comes to computers. :weird:

good attitude :P
Myself, I'm pretty patient as long as they have a good attitude. Simply because someone hasn't worked with computers as much as I have or studied to earn a few certs doesn't mean I should berate them for that. Its not necessarily their fault because they probably learned other skills that were more important to them.
If they don't, or they start to berate me, i usually say something to the effect "come back when you're willing to listen" and walk away.

How patient are you with technologically adept people? :p I think they annoy me more than those who are inept

Only if they're asses about it, or like to lord their superior technological prowess over you. Fortunately, most techies are eager to spread their knowledge rather than the kind to smugly brag about how much more they know than you while refusing to teach.

that and if they are a complete douche about it, you can usually just insinuate that they're still virgin and they'll shut up.

or that they're somewhere on the mild end of the autistic spectrum so you just nod and say "mm hmm, yeap, mmm hmm" then walk away
