Haha, ok.

The Dragon Tooth is _not_ at all like a light saber. It does not contract into a convienent pocket size handle. Throw it on the ground - it's a full size sword. The nano-tech components simply keep it sharp while creating a bit of blue light. That it seems to extend when you draw it is just faulty animation.

Yeah, if it was just a handle, would it really take up four inventory slots?

All that's missing is a big dude with a black mask and breathing problems for JC to battle with... and of course that distinctive sound that the light saber makes as it swishes through the air. Then, the circle will be complete.

Soul Reaver is also riddled with cliches, including a lightsaber knockoff. But I can laugh at these. In fact, I can see the ridiculousness of it all at the same time as I immerse myself in the game's seriousness. I hope that made sense. Besically, you can laugh at the game as Mister Po is, without degrading the game.
For example, my sister laughs at Thief. However, she mocks it in earnest. She's played it, but she refused to allow herself to become immersed, instead constantly pointing out whatever she could find wrong with it. The only thing she liked was bonking the guards, which is not what Thief is about.
Me, I didn't like Deus Ex for the sole reason of the damage model. I think that the "feel" of your and the enemies' bodies is very important to gameplay.

Oh, I don't know. The other day I got shot in the face with a broadhead arrow. It's a good thing I was alerted or else I might have gotten killed.

Have you ever stopped and thought about how ridiculous a lightsabre is?
Hey, Lasers are to come out of pistols, and not to be attached to handles with zoomy sound effects! I mean, you take that sabre in your hand, and it gets activated by some unknown method, and stays that, even if it slips out of your hand. the laser goes right out of the handle, but only to a length of about 1 meter. It can basically cut through most stuff, but it can be blocked by another lightsabre.
Hello?
Back to the topic: the problem with Ripoffs is, that so much has been thought of and done yet. Try to just write a story, and I bet people on here can at least tell you three or four similar things or sources.
So, there are stackable crates, and they can contain stuff. So what? It's not like crates are an invention of video games, and putting stuff in it is the original use for a crate :p
Let's rather stick to what was new and innovative in DX: For example, I've never seen a similar skill system before. Usually, you upgrade your skills to use better stuff, or gain abilities. I never heard of skills that would increase your aim, damage, reload, and so on. At least not in the kind of game that DX is.

Hey, the guards in Thief are specially trained to catch incoming arrows with their faces. There's NOTHING unrealistic about them surviving a broadhead to the eye, if they saw it coming.

That is right Dragonclaw. This is a point to Deus Ex. While the nanosword looks like a rip off of Star Wars, the light sabre made no sense (was the technology explained?) while the nanosword's non-eutactic blade makes a lot of sense. It can be done one day, although it shouldn't glow. However I am glad it did, because it was an eye candy.
