Okay. This thread is deliberately making fun of Deus Ex. I'll begin...
Oh gosh! A sword with incredible powers that sort of pops up after you yank it out. Where did they ever come up with that idea?
Crates you can stack, carry or smash. Some of them have stuff inside. How novel.
The doors are locked. Maybe I can get in through the ventilation shafts somehow. It works!
Spitting raptors!!! What an imagination.
You can add your own or you can whine about this unprovoked attack on your game. I'm sure either will be amusing

The nanosword was stolen from Star Wars.
The crates interactivity was originally in System Shock.
I have seen the going through the vents cliche in both movies and video games alike soo many times.
Spitting raptors is from Jurrasic Park.
How about Jc Denton? He looks like NEO with his trenchcoat and sunglasses.

I really don't like you.
you whine about the game being too complex, having too much reading and not being pretty enough, but don't give a shit about gameplay.
now you whine about a few very small patches of unoriginality when the games you tout as classic such as tomb raider are far worse.
additionally you're trolling for flames by doing this here.
eat shit.

It seems that Mr inscrutable has figured out that complaining is better than enjoying.
How... unfortunate.

You know what is original in the game? That bad guy. He's a great character. The one that appears in the Intro and later tries to have JC terminated. I love talking to that guy. He's so cold. His voice is perfect and he's hardly a cliche at all. The other guy in the intro was also pretty good. There was something familiar about his voice and the way he looked, like he might be some government official from real life or maybe an evangelical tv preacher or something. The guy gave me the creeps and this was pretty original stuff in the game, certainly as original as some of the dialogue in Thief, although you might as well face it, the Thief guards are just people doing imitations of the soldiers in Monty Python's "Search for the Holy Grail" or whatever that movie was called.
I'll have to go back to the game to find other rip offs. I'm sure there are many and they work in the game's favor. I don't think they ever for a second expect you to be dumb enough to think all of this is new and original. Spector has you going along laughing at him and Deus Ex as you play, laughing at all these cliches. I think it's called "camp" humor.
Tell me Vesuvious, is this the first game you've ever played?
Ever been to any movies?

How... unfortunate. I agree.
Ce que je veux dire: Of course it is no new idea to have stackable crates with stuff inside. But what should they have invented instead, in your opinion? Crates - that's the rage of the season. That's the way it is. Nothing to make fun of - we don't meake fun of you either just because you're wearing shoes, for instance, like they did hundreds of years ago already. Why didn't you invent something new? ;)
Spitting raptors? I think that's very innovative. They don't bite, they spit. This is a parable on society. :p
As for your other points .. well, it still is fun to hack away with such a sword. And me, personally, I don't mind it being stolen from StarWars .. the idea wasn't new to StarWars anyway. You could equally blame DeusEx for having weapons in it, which thousands of films do. Plagiarism! They copied our .. umm .. pistol!
Didn't you know there always is a ventilation shaft next to locked doors? Well there is! OK :cheeky: got me there. But at least in DeusEx, there actually are fans in the ventilation shafts - in most other games, "ventilation shafts" don't deserve the denomination "ventilation". Very ActionMovie-like, though. I see your point.

Raptor = a bird of prey. Not a dinosaur (that's a velociraptor).
Ahem.
Now, don't take this personally, but you people really need a sense of humour.
Deiyen on 31/5/2002 at 09:01
Well, people tend to shorten the term "velociraptor" to just "raptor" so I guess it really depends on context as to what they mean. But yea, "raptor" originally meant bird of prey. And I agree, you people need humor. :cheeky: [cowers before the oncoming flames]
