So I went to my mom's house today. She told me her satellite TV bill is $120 EVERY month! How the **** do they justify this? She does not have a mansion: only TVs in three rooms and a DVR in one of them. She has a few premium channels like HBO and HD support for the TV in the front room.
How many of YOU actually pay this much for television? Is it just me, or is it unreasonable for a TV subscription to enter triple-digit$ territory unless you're ordering every PPV event under the sun and subscribing to ALL of the premium networks?
For a three-figure price-tag, I had better be able to turn the TV on and watch whatever I want, whenever I want... commercial free!
It is too bad so many people are still addicted to that twentieth-century piece of technology they call television.

People still watch TV?

Heh, I pay 0 for TV because I don't have it. The prices are ridiculous and I simply can't justify it considering you can get Netflix and the like for a fraction of the price. Hell, I don't even have that, I just rent a good dvd or tv series if I'm in the mood to watch something.
Yes $120 is insane, but I know people who pay this as well:o

Not had TV since I moved to the UK, three years now, going on four. Don't miss it.

My TV is exclusively used for games, movies I rent/buy/pirate (HUR HUR) and watching the occasional bit of local news from the basic cable. Haven't been a TV viewer since a little more than 2002 or so.
Though Internet has replaced part of that time....damn.

My TV is pretty much only for games and movies off the PS3. Unless the room-mate riff-raff are hogging it, which is 24/7 until I scowl or glower at them to fuck off.
I know, I'm a jerk, but I'm honestly considering putting the child lock access code on just to spite them.

A UK TV license is about £130/year, which you have to pay if you want to watch TV. You can then add various channel packages for about £30/month. But I'm with Thief13x, I pretty much don't watch TV any more. Only occasional shows and repeats online (which you still need a license to watch here)

Don't use satellite cable if you don't intend to pay for it. It's that fucking simple.

They charge whatever people will pay. If $120 a month was too much, people wouldn't pay it and the TV companies wouldn't make any money. They don't need to "justify" it on any moral grounds. At least in the US you have a choice!

Depends on income. I f.e. pay zero, only freeview SD TV sometimes...
