I am looking for System Shock 1 on the net. I have already found SS2 on CD, but I want to play SS1 before I try SS2. I have come across different versions of SS1, and wanted to know which is the best. One version I saw came with 9 3.5 floppy's and another was an "enhanced" version on CD. Are there other versions that are even better? My computer runs Windows XP, so I'll probably need to do something to make the game run on it. Also, when SS1came out, was there some sort of a strategy guide available for it, if so, who published it? I like to use them so I don't miss anything or get lost. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks again, Lou.

There are two versions of System Shock. The floppy disk one, and then the enhanced CD one. There's also a Mac version available. As you can see, there is a huge thread in this forum dedicated to the subject of running System Shock on Win2K/XP. All I had to do was to follow the instructions in the very first post, and that worked for me. But obviously, judging by the size of the thread, it doesn't seem to work for everyone, and each case seems to be more or less unique.
There is a strategy guide for System Shock. It's called System Shock I.C.E. Breaker, and was published by Origin. It's definitely not easy to find it, and your best bet would be trying to find one for sale on e-Bay.

wasn't the I.C.E. breaker available somewhere for download as a PDF? I am away from home at the moment, but I vaguely remember downloading it a few years ago. Brought back fond memories of my I.C.E. guide, long since lost...
Ooops, sorry if that is a taboo subject, but then again, if I did download it, it would have been from these forums...

I never saw it as a PDF. Instead we had lots of discussions with people who had the book but never were willing to scan it.
...
If you still have that PDF you might do a lot of people a favor by putting it up on SBF or elsewhere.

cool, I'll have a hunt when I get home. Will be about a month though.

I have never heard of the hint book being available for download... I can only remember the game manual being available in .pdf format. Are you sure that you're not confusing them?

Make text-links pointing to the pages the images appear on instead of actual images. Mobygames doesn't allow hotlinking, so they show up as plain white Mobygames ads instead.

Your picture links don't work - but I was able to see what you mean by following the link at the bottom.
If I were to guess, I would say it's a difference between the UK and USA CD printing. I bought the enhanced CD from the UK the day it was available and it definitely has the blue / green artwork on it.
