Sorry, wrong forum.

Yes, I quick save a lot because Deus Ex is also keen on crashing, for me at least. (Every hour or every two hours if I am lucky) It would be annoying to lost several hours of play because of a silly "go back to desktop" crash. A counter of the number of loads would be more useful, but it isn't provided for the game so. :)

SAVE?
YOU CAN ACTUALLY SAVE? WHY DID NOBODY TELL ME?!!!!!
where? how?
RobDDav on 26/8/2003 at 00:24
its an option on the menu.... how could you miss it?
Lytha on 27/8/2003 at 14:04
Huh.
I normally save at a healthy rate of just below 1000 times per game. ;)
For that no-saving... erm. I just died in the Warehouse. On the path via the roof; as I wanted to play it "secure", I started shooting. And as it was "realistic", it was then over as I had no head left.
No saving is NASTY, I must say, there were a couple of extremely yucky situations, as when that NSFler appeared while I was talking with Anna (I saved myself by using her as a shield and circling around) or when that MJ12er in the sewer lab appeared just while I was at the security console (saved me with one of the ballistic armors and the assault rifle that I had picked up before). Nasty. I will give it another try though. ;)
And, uh... Alneyan, there is a counter for the amount of times saved.

1000 exactly on my first run through on realistic. I grew up on an FPS where you die in one shot, and you can't save in level, so after living through that shit I save like a compulsive motherfucker. A friend of mine was watching me play Half Life (when it was still installed on my pc) and he says "Matt, why did you just jump to your death?" and I say "it was more interesting than quick load". If I don't get by something with least possible damage taken and least amounts of bullets used, or full ammo and full health afterwards, I load the game. And since half life does is automatically when you die I let it have the liberty of doing it. But Rainbow Six leaves life long trauma when played at 11 years old (okay so I'd played a quake demo before that, but not much). Imagine sort of setting up a team (not really knowing what to do, being 11 and all) using the guns that looked cool, load up the first level and promptly have your whole team slaughtered. Hell even mouse look was scary for me back then. After my first experience witht the game I didn't play it for another like 6 months, and when I did I simply could not get past the stealth mission on my own (I was 11 leave me alone) so I cheated for them. But it impressed upon me an ultra conservative out look on gaming that stuck with me. Namely "one shot, one kill, one save".
Oh and I have one whole harddrive dedicated to DX (I have four HDs in my pc and a copy of DX on each, but the other ones are more for mapping and playing mods). I first tried to put that and Metal Gear Solid 2 on the same HD.... but DX and MGS2, on one measly 20gig? not a fucking chance.

You could make a few hundred saves just in case, but you would only reload twenty times for instance. That's what I meant. :)
I finished the game with 501 saves, for a duration of around 17h. That is quite a lot of saves, maybe I am too careful. ;)

Around 70, maybe 50... The latest time I played I got to Area 51 in about 25 but I got bored then and stopped playing...

It is not going well with my no saving-approach. :p
I made it so far as I had a chat with Paul inside the hotel (after his killswitch got activated), then my computer began to act up funny and the game locked up.
I guess I will take an anti-computer-freeze save every hour or half an hour now, and just not use those to reload after nasty situation - as that hardware-induced failure was just plain crappy.
tungsten on 1/9/2003 at 19:58
should we post sure ways to hang up your computer, just in case you need a "legal" reload ;-)
don't take this too seriously, I admire you that you try! I gave up before I started. Btw: how much time do you invest?
