How many total cyber modules are possible to accumulate by the end? I've added it up and it comes to about 857 (865 if I picked Cyber Enhanced OS upgrade, 875 if you count the 10 you gain and then lose at a certain part. I don't know if there is a way to avoid losing those ones). I've even calculated how many I've found on each deck/section, roughly.

There are two ways off the top of my head to avoid them - in MP, just kill yourself, you'll respawn anyway. In SP, you can grab OSA teleportation and hop out without triggering Shodan's wrath. As for modules, there's 870 in the game, according to Google. Not sure if they counted the possible extra 8 in there.

Does it say anything about how many are on each map area? Without counting those 10 or 8 that I mentioned, I have found the following:
Med/Sci: 46 (28 + 18)
Engineering: 65 (44 + 21)
Hydroponics: 91 (20 + 54 + 17)
Ops: 123 (24 + 38 + 61)
Recreation: 142 (53 + 56 + 33)
Command: 163 (70 + 93)
Rickenbacker: 150 (105 + 25 + 20)
Body of the Many: 77 (I think?)
You can also keep them my making sure to have 0 modules when you're meant to lose them (don't pick up the 10 until after you've searched the body, not taken them, and left again).

Ok, I looked around and found 3 sets of modules I have never found before:
3 modules in Hydro D, involves breaking the glass where the armor is.
2 modules in a broken floor panel in Operations D. The place to the right of where the dude in red appears.
7 modules behind a bench in the escape pods area.
But that would bring my total to 869...Are there any 1-module pickups anywhere?

You can skip all that if you have 0 modules when stepping into that cargo bay, the penalty won't have any effect.

The only issue is, by then, most of the things you want to spend on are in the 40-50 CM ranges - it's not exactly trivial to plan ahead so you end up with exactly 0 CMs. ;)
Not that's not a way to avoid, don't get me wrong. I learn something new every day. :D

Wait, I found another 3 modules sitting between 2 crates in the room in Hydro A w/security crate that I never found before. That would bring it to 872.

If you really want a definitive answer to this, you could just open up the maps in ShockEd, highlight_object by type, and then cycle through the highlighted objects and count them (I'm paraphrasing the method here; I've done it in dromed for keys and loot before.) Then you can be sure you won't miss any. Of course that would be cheating if your purpose is to find them all the old fashioned way, but if your purpose is just to know the number, it's ok.
