Never have I seen a Security, Rumbler, Arachnid, etc. spawn randomly.
For example spiders are being spawned in Ops. Once I even experienced a spawned Rumbler in Ops who attacked me immediately (after I revisited it after Recreation). It was quite unexpected and shocking. Protocols also spawn in Ops.
Just wander around the ship more than is necessary and you see things you wouldn't believe!

Yes, I slipped them because they carry no loot, and my question is concerned with that. Nice observation.

This is really starting to be intriguing. Since there are no Rumblers on Ops, I really doubt one would spawn there, even after the encounter with one at Recreation. Could you try to make it happen again? But you are right that at some points Spiders respawn, I don't recall Ops, but I do recall Command, the long corridor before the Tram, I forgot about it. I really would have to check the ecologies in shocked it seems.

The red lines mark corridors where spawned spiders, fire monkeys and grenade hybrids tend to wander. I don't know precise spawn points, but they have to be in those areas well.
The yellow circle marks the spot where I was when the rumbler spawned - at the pont aproximately where the yellow cross is. It was aware of my presence since it appeared and ran to the room (shooting range?) where I was.
I don't think it would be too hard for it to happen again - I'd bet if you hang around barracks area in Ops after you have encountered a Rumbler in Rec, eventually you would see one to be spawned in Ops. That of course means you have to clean already spawned lesser vermin to make room for new spawns. But I'm not closely familiar with spawning patterns in Shock. Rumbler spawn is perhaps uncommon or rare in Ops, but I SURVIVED IT FOR GOD'S SAKE!

I believe you, bad choice of words. I really didn't know this.

Sometimes I have idea I would try a "survivalist campaign" in Shock 2. For example, start it on Hard or Impossible, play it as normal until you have to go to Body of the Many... but instead I would get back, wander around the ship and see how long can I survive, facing the respawned monsters with little resources I have ... perhaps I would notice respawns in places which I couldn't imagine before and other new curiosities...
Nah, such freeplay would be surely boring after a while in Shock, however this idea bugs me for years.

Nope, I've encountered at least one Rumbler in Ops myself, in the bulkhead where you find Bronson's corpse.

I've met Rumblers in Ops 3, though it has been a loooong time since I last played the original campaign so I can't remember if it was before or after visiting the command center. :o

It is a persistant bug ;). I agree, it would likely reveal stuff I never saw before. Why would you want to replay Rick or Rec? For no reason, save this one.

It's not a bug, it's a feature.
