Seriously, there's not much traffic here lately. It seems people lost interest in T3Ed...
Yeah, and to a certain degree I can understand why.... :p

Hmmm... After using T3Ed for few months I am wondering whether I should build my FM in T3Ed or wait for Dark Mod (another two years?)...

Could potentially be as little as one year (for a beta) if everything goes right, which of course, inevitably, it won't - I'm not even going to tempt fate by making release dates we can't hope to stick to.
But we already have some mappers (outside of the team) working on their missions to test what we already have, and as features get implemented and more content made, those missions will be the first darkmod missions to see release.

I for one will be making my FM in T3Ed. I think T3Ed has a lot more potential than people are giving it credit for - sure, its scripting system is limited and it can be unstable at times, but it's going to take time to learn a new editor. Just look at how far we've come already.
As for my FM, it's going to be a very long time before it's released... After finally deciding on a storyline I liked, I started building it this morning :p .

I think it'd be a waste to totally abandon T3. You might not be able to tweak it to be exactly like T1 & 2, but there's still enough good stuff in there that's worth playing around with.
Given enough time and attention I'm sure someone could make a new T7C or Inverse Manse calibur mission.

I have switched to the D3 engine in preparation for the Dark Mod. It is a vastly superior and more capable engine with massive potential for customisation, unlike T3 where you cannot even get custom textures or models into the game without a specific version of 3DS Max and an undocumented plugin from Ion storm - not to mention the level size limits, BSP holes, random crashes and other nastiness.
I still look forward to seeing what the T3 fan community comes up with, but it seems fairly clear to me that the T3 engine is not where the mapping future lies.

Looking forward to seeing what you bring to the Dark Mod scene. :)

I don't think a lot of people realize that T3Ed is actually good. Well, if it's going to happen, it'll happen, I guess. The contest starting up would probably help things along. Also, as soon as one person gets something out, more should follow. Maybe someone should organize a tiny mini-mission contest, like the DromEd beauty contest - it was a great success, and it was quick.
The mission I started, a never-finished-for-T2 map of mine, is pretty much exactly half done (yes, I'm using zones, and one is "finished"), but I've stalled and haven't worked on it for several weeks. Not for lack of interest at all - just too busy with other things at the moment to devote enough time to it.
If people get going on it, there will be good FMs for T3. It might be T2X drawing attention away, or it might just be DromEd's continued awesomeness. Or it might be everyone waiting for that first release to say, "Hey! It works! Lemme try!" Hopefully some of the T2X team will start to give T3Ed a look...
[creepy demon voice]And that should satisfy till The Dark Mod cometh, muhahaha[/creepy demon voice]

I think the fact that no-one's released a level yet is a big part of why people are skeptical of T3ed. No proof of concept or what-have-you. The contest will probably help things a bit, I think.
T2X and The Dark Mod have people's attention at the moment because they're big projects that have reached important milestones (release in T2X's case, a couple of very nice character models finished in TDM's). T3ed is mostly being used by individual modders on their own seperate projects, quietly. There's nothing high-profile going on and no real news, so people take that to mean that it's dead.
I haven't got much done because I'm concentrating on the drawing class I'm in and playing through T2X at the moment. In between those, I'm trying to get a bit better at 3d modeling. I've got something-or-other coming, but I haven't quite decided what yet.

I was thinking about starting a level then emailing it to someone to add onto it then that person could email the work they've done to someone else. This keeps going until the level builds up and finally ready for public consumption. We could call it the "TTTLG Project (Thief Through The Looking Glass or T3LG)". Maybe someone else could start because I'm not quite ready yet . . .
