How important is it that your significant other enjoys Thief? - by slavatrumpevitch

I'm sorry, but the only one whose masculinity feels threatened here is yours, and it is ridiculous that
video gaming is the proxy for that psychological dysfunction. I guess there really is nothing more masculine than frantically pressing buttons to exert a power fantasy on a screen.
I don't have a problem knowing that kids and adults of all ages and genders like playing games, whatever they happen to be. The ones on their smartphones might even end up playing console games - oh, look, (
http://www.pewinternet.org/2015/10/29/the-demographics-of-device-ownership/) stats. Also (
https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/sep/17/women-video-games-iab) stats.
Yes, smartphones are on the top of the heap and they aren't going anywhere, they're always going to be the most popular gaming device for 'filthy casuals' regardless of gender because they're ubiquitous and easy to access. There's also a large amount of people playing console and PC games at the same time. We're all fine, and don't give a damn whether you feel it's a travesty that gurls are invading your spacez and bringing their cooties and boogers to bear upon your pristine bloodbaths. There's place in the world for all that and more. The only person that has an issue with that is you, and that's because you need to grow up.

The issue of mine is not about other people enjoying casual games, it's about putting them and actual hobbyists in one bag. The next thing you'll say is that people who play on those cheap mcdonalds toys are equal to people who spend thousands and thousands of dollars to play VR games. Because that was the whole point of Judith.
If you consider gaming as whole (so people who play on cheap mcdonalds toys and people who spend most of their time with games), then yes, it's going to be close to 50-50. But this is so stupid to use when you want to prove that women play games just like men. No, they don't. Every major multiplayer game is not 50-50. Almost every major AAA title is not 50-50. Indie games may be 50-50 but not always.
This is a matter of stating the truth and dismissing "it's 2017! get over it already" argument that sounds like it was taken from a shitty american talk show.

Read the whole thread and then talk crap.

Nah, I'm not going to jump into that argument when my issue is specifically with you dismissing stuff out of hand because of an underlying assumption that AAA gaming is all that counts, and women don't play 'real' video games because they don't have the attention span or psychological makeup for it, both of which speak to rampant immaturity and/or lack of experience with the real world. Cool misogyny, bro.
I've already posted links that tell you otherwise, and I don't care about your personal experiences with a bunch of manshoots which, obviously, aren't going to attract a lot of women if most of the crowd's made up of wunderkinds like you.
Judith on 17/5/2017 at 07:58
Well, at least you acknowledged you're a jerk right from the start.
First off, don't put words in my mouth, I know what I wanted to say. Second, it seems like you want to feel super important because you've thrown tons of cash at something, but somehow noone cares and that frustrates you. Everything Sulphur wrote is spot-on, especially the part about growing up.

Keep projecting, that obviously won't make you look like an imbecile who has to rely on imaginary stuff to prove his point. There are different statistics and different ways to measure stuff. If you are really so narrow-minded to believe that you have to put literally everyone in one group just because they do something that is not even strictly defined nowadays, then you (and other people who claim the same) are really, really stupid and I am ashamed that I have to share a fandom with people like you.
As other people said: If you believe hard enough, everything is possible (at least in your head).

At least I am more mature than a person who spreads misinformation just to feel "modern" and full of himself. Your country is not backwards, you are on the other hand.

All I can say to that is: ¿Que? :erm:

Starting a discussion with your fantasy of me having so many problems playing Thief, which is obviously far beyond my mental and intellectual abilities, because it's such a pro game. Yeah, really mature :)

It's really hilarious when people trying to undermine stuff like being a hardcore Sudoku or Puzzle Quest player, when it's basically in the same category as being a hardcore Battlefield player, i.e. it requires higher level of engagement and skills.

I am not a pro player of any sorts, I mostly play single player games, but what you said is so wrong on so many levels that it's pathetic to argue with a person like yourself. Your limited thinking of games makes people that actually take their time equal to a casual player who just spends more time on his "hardcore Sudoku".
Once again, nothing wrong with casual players, but there has to be a distinction. You have been wrong many times in this thread and yet you attack people who point faults in your thinking, which makes you look like arrogant. So it's basically you being wrong and being an awful person to people who are more correct.
Judith on 17/5/2017 at 08:31
*In a dramatic voice* There has to be a distinction...
That's why it's so easy to make fun of people like you :)
Obviously, you're mistaking broader thinking - extending particular phenomenon of passion of e.g. a hardcore Battlefield gamer, to passion of all gamers, regardless of title or genre - for limited thinking, and vice versa. And, if arguing with me is a waste of time, why are you here?
zomfg1234 on 17/5/2017 at 08:48
The whole point of this discussion is you claiming that there is 50-50 in general gaming, which is true. Then people called you out saying that indeed there is 50-50, but females play games mostly accessible for literally everyone and when it comes to mobile gaming, there's often a situation when you can't even say if it's a game anymore (I know how big of a mess is Google Play and other shit like that), so it's a stupid thing to say, that "it's 2017, get with the times grandpa".
You were implying that a lot changed since 1997 which is not true. When playing online games, you won't meet a woman almost at all. They tend to talk about games that are heavily marketed but they won't engage in big discussions or anything like that - it's a waste of time for them. So while there is a change, it's a little one. Mobile games usually have little to no multiplayer so they are closed in that sense.
So, if we have that much different genres and platforms, it would be smart to make and talk about different statistics. But somehow that seems hard for you, even if it really makes the most sense. There is no reason really to compare Puzzle Quest to Battlefield, because they are different games, although most of the time you can tell objectively which game is harder at the highest level of play. Yet you keep saying that they are all the same and we as gamers are equal to each other, which is not true. It's not that some are worse than the others, it's just that there has to be a clear distinction so there's no misinformation spread around just because some people are ignorant.
Talk about gamers with phones.
Talk about gamers with consoles.
Talk about gamers with PC.
Talk about gamers with cheap mcdonalds toys.
Every platform is different, it's that simple. Some platforms are messy and got a lot of false info going around, so a distinction is very important.
