I've been playing a roguish Guardian over the last week. He started with 8 Str, 10 Mental, 16 Dex & 6 Con; all addition stat points go straight into Dex. Skill points going a little into Melee Combat, a bit more into Missile, and a lot into Stealth, Technical & Object Knowledge.
Now the problem is: He can't handle the Ylsides or Akbaa one-on-on. I had to sneak/invisible past the Ylsides into the final confrontation; and I just can't beat Akbaa straight up I had to use the levitation cheat to kill Akbaa to finish the game.
Stealthing and plocking away with poisoned arrows work fine against the Ratmen and there was a lotta space in Poxeilis' Tomb to hide-hit-and-run against the 2 Liches, but the Ylsides seemed to be very quick to track him once he shot them with 2 arrows, even if he runs outta sight immediately after releasing the 2nd arrow. And with their 'speed up' ability, they don't take long to catch and hack him down. Even using the invisibility spell doesn't seem to stop them from catching him.
Anyway who played a straight-rogue Guardian has any comments? If I am very lucky, 2 poisoned arrow hits *just* might kill an Ylside (that happened at the temple entrance, where I shot the Ylside standing inside the entrance twice, a few seconds later he collapsed and exploded.
Otherwise, it was a BLAST playing a roguish Guardian. I particulary enjoy shooting the Ratmen in the mushroom forest full of poisoned arrows, as well as against the Liches guarding Poxeilis' Tomb. I actually used the Telekinesis spell to keep tossing a shortsword down a well-lit tunnel to make noise and provoke a Ratman to investigate (Arx's version of the Noisemaker arrow). The telekinesis spell also comes in handy to set off mechanical traps from a safe distance. BTW, it seems that it is the Technical skill and not the Intituion skill that allows the player to detect traps; when I was in the crypts with 60-70+ Technical and base Intituion, all the traps were highlighted clear as beacons.
