why cant I put the a fake soul gem in a desk as ajira wants instead of on it?
When I put it on a desk, she asks if I put the soul gem in it, and doesnt give me an option to answer her.

Well,
you can go about this a couple of ways. first you could get an item that has "soultrap" enchanted on it. you can then use that like any other enchanted item and cast it on your target. kill the little beast and you are good to go.
or if you have some magika skill you can buy a soul trap spell, this sorta sucks early on (at least for my dunmer) if your not specialized in (alteration????) I'm not positive on that lsat little bit. anyhow you'd just cast soultrap and that will give you 60 seconds to whack that little beastie.

can put the fake soul gem in the desk; 'action' the desk, move the fake soul gem into the desk's inventory, and you're ready to talk to Ajira. Or am I missing something?
