Hello, my first post. I know it must seem like a bit of a stupid question to some of you if you have played this game several times. But I just started playing System Shock 2. I don't have much time to play nowadays and I did the training two days ago. When you have 30 mins max playtime every night, it's just a waste of time to go over things again.
Anyway, I have come to some container at the beginning of the first level and it sez I need hacking skill 2, I don't even have hacking skill 1, how do I learn this? Don't wanna go cheating as it will prolly ruin the game. And most likely this kind of thing make this game partly a rpg, so I would really like it if someone could post an answer.

Page 17 of the manual.

Wish I had the manual, I bought the game at a computer discount thing, how do you call that, a huge sale from a lot of shops in a very big building, where also individuals can sell their stuff. Anyway, I bought a box the size of a shoe-box with a lot of old cd-roms in it and some of those games came without a manual. Which I found out later at home. Grrr.

Earlier in the game you passed these wall-mounted machines with skill/stat icons in them. If you forgot where they were, find your way back to the first big room you entered after escaping decompression at the beginning of MedSci. Those trade skill levels for your cyber modules. Open up your e-mails and find one of Polito's transmissions which tells you about them.

In the room where you saw the ghost. There's a big pillar in the middle, and around the pillar are things you buy skills from.

Doesn't Polito give you explicit instructions on how to upgrade stats at the same time at which she gives you your first cyber-modules?

He's just playing the game for the first time though, so cut him a little slack. I know the first time I got into the game it took me a while to learn to give my ears priority over my eyes. I spent the first half-hour on the Von Braun meandering through the halls of MedSci gawking at things while paying no attention to Polito yammering at the back of my skull.

I suppose your gawking eyes happened to miss the obvious info computers and upgrade stations, then?
