I have taken that test and i dont think its right, i understand that race and class are big factor of the game experience. The manual is very brief so i would like to talk to experts.
Basically i want to stay away from magic and be able to run into battle.

Well then, make a custom class with mainly melee skills. :) Pick a race which is good at fighting, well actually most are, but Nords and Orcs make the best fighters I think, and maybe Dark Elves. Specialize in melee (obviously), pick one armor and one weapon skill, optionally block, acrobatics, athletics.. alchemy, enchanting, armorer, speechcraft and security are nice skills to have for any class.
Just some suggestions :p

How do you know what shoe is right for you? It just feels right damnit.
This game is too easy to require strategy in making a character.

well the characters that i tried didnt feel right for me. Are the red guards good for being warriors?

This may seem like a simple answer, but when in doubt while you are creating your character - role play it - who are you? how do you feel about being there? what was it you did before? how do you think your character will react to violence, secrecy, magic? use all of these questions to customise the character you most feel like at that moment. Remember that MW isn't about doing it the best way, or the right way, but your way. So role play and do not worry how we all are doing ;) Not meant to be a criticism but hopefully to be helpful.
Here for instance is my first character:
Name:
Fionavar
Class:
Shadow
Race:
Khajiit
Birth Sign:
The Lady
Specialisation:
Stealth
Major:
Security
Sneak
Marksmanship
Short Blade
Light Armour
Minor:
Acrobatics
Athletics
Alteration
Mysticism
Speechcraft
Fionavar is a disenheartened Shadow, who is confused and though he feels angry, he is beginning to realise that he may need to get involved or become engulfed by the cynicism that threatens him. He has now left Seyda Neen, having freed the slaves in the Pirate's cove and has chosen not to head to Balmora - in fact he has headed in the opposite direction and has arrived in the large city of Vivec. In Vivec the rumours of an invisible assailant who has begun to plague the city is intriguing, drawing him into the lives of the people . . .
Well I hope this helps ;) Peace.

First of all, don't listen to anything what Tuco says. It's dangerous.
Second. Here's what I did. Made a custom class. Grabbed and arranged all the skills that seemed fun to me (read the descriptions!), thought about it more, wiped it all out, started again, played the character for 5 levels or so, thought about what sucked and what didn't, played 10 more levels (although that was really more than necessary), then started over and got rid of all the extra crap I didn't need. My character now is quite streamlined.
Yep, RedGuards make good fighters. Here's a couple of tips if you want to stay away from magic. Make your main trait specialization Strength. Pick one weapon only for your Primary/Secondaries (I recommend long sword or axe - not sure about spears). Pick one type of armor (medium or heavy, you should be good with heavy), take both athletics and acrobatics, the rest is pretty much up to you if you're nonmagic (you'll be passing up on a big part of the game though. I recommend taking at least Destruction - it's cool :) Restoration is a thought too, for healing...
Good luck!

is magic that important?
Damodred on 8/6/2002 at 14:11
No. But it's there, and it's fun. And there's only so much you can do with sheer brute force (I mean skill-wise). You got your weapon, your armour, your athletics so you can actually MOVE with all the heavy armour you're carrying :D, and then you got all those slots left...fill'em with something interesting. I'd go for magic (since it means you can at least slightly harm things at LONG distance)...but thievery is an option too, since there's so many occasions for you to um, acquire things. :)
